I thought I'd get some info out there. I have started getting things going to have the surgery. I'm 42 weighing 291 and my bmi is 50. This was an easy solution. I've tried all the diets, changing how I eat, working out. Nothing worked for me. I have 5 kids and its to the point I can't enjoy life and go do things with them. I have diabetes, hbp, HERD, high cholesterol and severe pain. I know I'm going to have to pay $1157 out of pocket. My questions are how long does it usually take for the whole process, from going to seminar to having the surgery?

It all depends on your doctor and insurance company. For starters, my dr. required lots of testing before hand. I had to get a endoscopy, colonoscopy, sleep study, physic. eval. neutrition eval. and a support letter from my general physician. I started at the end of February 2012 and had surgery April 9th. So basically it took me 2 months from the first doctor visit to surgery. Other insurance companies require a 6 month supervised diet, other testing etc. etc.

If I didn't have problems with my PCP, It would have only took about 2 months. I believe I was approved in June. My surgery is August 6th. But, it really does depend on your insurance. If you have an unsupportive PCP, it can take longer.

Wow, your Dr requires alot outside of what Ins wants. Why the colonoscopy? You're the first one I've seen that had to have one.

It will be less than 2 months for me as my Ins didn't kick in until July 1st.

I know my doctor stated anyone over 40 would be required to get a colonospy no matter what insurance they might have.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
