Cardiac Clearance Tomorrow... Nervous!

Recommended Posts

So I went for my initial cardiac clearance almost 2 weeks ago, and even though everything looked good & I haven't had any problems ~ because of family history, this cardiologist wants me to do an echocardiogram and a stress test before he'll give me clearance.

I'm think I'm nervous because I'm afraid they're going to find some random silent heart problem ~ which I know would be a GOOD thing if they did find it before it caused any trouble, lol ~ but still, it would just be another thing, you know?

But on the positive side, I am more than fine to run on a treadmill ;) and Thursday is my surgery consult ~ so we'll be setting a date in anticipation of my cardiac clearance coming in :)

My cardiologist appt is Fri and I'm nervous too LOL fingers crossed that ur as healthy as can be, ready for surgery!

Side thought....what should I expect at the cardiologist appt, will they actually throw my butt on a treadmill, bc if they do, I sure as heck won't be wearing jeans and heels! LOL

If it's just a regular clearance appointment, they should just do a history, regular sort of exam, and EKG (just stickies w/ words on your torso - takes longer to put them all on than to capture the actual EKG!) It's a Stress Test where they throw you on the treadmill... which is why I have a note for myself to remember some gym clothes & sneakers to change into when I leave the office for mine tomorrow =P

I had to do the stress test a few weeks ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought. The cardiologist told me there are two different categories of stress tests preformed. I was low risk, so I just had to have the heart monitor electrodes (?) stuck to my chest and walked on the treadmill. Every 3 minutes, the machine would up the speed and elevation. I was able to tell the technician how much I could take. For the cardiac clearance they also had to perform an echo heart ultrasound. That hurt a bit. The technician had to firmly push the wand into my chest to get accurate pictures of my heart. My chest was sore for about 5 days afterwards. All in all, I would say that the cardiac clearance was fairly easy and stress free.

How did your clearance go?

Had mine this morning. Had the skinny technician try to lecture me on how major of a surgery this is after she felt it was necessary to say "Have you tried weight watchers?" No, I haven't geez, perhaps its that easy?! Shut up! GRRRRRR Now I normally am a mouthy red headed pistol, but for some reason, the only thing that came out of my mouth was "I guess you've never been overweight" and left it at that. When the dr came in, he was great. Got my clearance and will not have to deal with them again.

Mine went well also. It didnt take long on the treadmill to reach my target heart rate and the girl laughed and said you are out of shape. I did get my results today and they were good. Just waiting for Aug 27th!!!

My stress test went ok. The first one took about 2 mins b4 I reached the max heart rate. Then I was told I needed to have another stress test with a kinda dye injection due to my heart skipping beats during the initial stress test. The second one went absolutely great, even tho it took about 2 hours :-(

I'm nervous for mine! What could possibly go wrong that the cardiologist would not give clearance? Would Anything like tachycardia/bradycardia or a minor heart murmor prevent clearance?

Nah none of those things will prevent clearance unless they are way out of control. I have a heart murmur and had to have a couple of echocardiograms and wear a heart monitor for 2 weeks to make sure everything was OK since I was newly diagnosed and got my clearance from there. Good luck to ya!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
