Hello everyone! My name is Patience and I am 22 years young! I had RNY gastric bypass November 15th 2011. A little over 8 months post op now and I am down to my absolute goal weight! 240lbs pre op - 127lbs post op!! I lost everything really quickly due to my high excersise level and very healthy eating. I am overwhelmed with my success and love hearing others success stories as well! Please ask any and all questions you have and I'd love to help any way I can!

My big question today is about calories! Have any of your nutritionists or surgeons suggested a specific number of calories you are allowed to have during a day or have they discouraged you from counting calories? Let me know!

Thank you!

Congrats to you! And welcome!

I have a question what was your workout routine like? Days a week/ hours a day/ exersizes machines/ weights ?

I know thy it is going to be must, and have to change my thought process and believe that I my body mind and spirit is the most important and not working out will no longer be an option

Congratulations on your success! I believe your youth has worked in your favor with the exercise. I work out daily and have done so before having surgery but was only able to lose and keep off about 20 extra pounds for the years prior to surgery. I've worked with trainers several times and developed a rigorous exercise regimen and it has kept me firm and relatively fit for several years but the surgery and subsequent reduction in calories has helped me begin to lose weight. I am 61 years old and even with a 1 hour daily workout and RNY the weight loss is somewhat slow and I believe I will be successful at reaching my goal but my age works against me in terms of rapid weight loss such as yours. We all need to develop the discipline of regular exercise whether we like it or not, thanks for your story and encouragement.

Thank you all so much for your kind words! My excersises now consist of Monday wednesday and Friday I do an hour each of yoga, Pilates, step class(or sometimes my gym offers a basic stretch class that's really nice to take instead of step class) and then I do an hour of this really fast paced fitness class where we do a total body work out. Then on Tuesday Thursday and some Saturday's I do an hour of cardio. 30 min on bike or elliptical and 30 min on the treadmill. And then an hour of weights.

Damn so your life basically surrounds around the gym. How's the loose skin situation? I'll be 21 in a week and am hoping that my age will help to prevent too much loose skin. (Pre-op weight 263)

My age definitely aided in my loose skin problems. Working out has literally made the loose skin on my arms and legs nonexistent! My tummy on the other hand is fairly loose no matter what I do for my abs. Standing up you can't tell but when I bend over like to throw my hair up in a towel after the shower it all just hangs there. I'm already saving to get that taken care of though. Just remember that everyone is different though. I carried my extra weight everywhere evenly.

Hi! & welcome to the family.

My starting weight was the same as yours and my goal weight is about 140lbs.

I have a few questions,

1. Did you have a rapid start with weight loss?

2. After surgery how long did you wait to start a work out regime? And what exactly did you start with?

3. Did you ever have a stall in weight loss? And how did you overcome it?

4. I know you mentioned you have very healthy eating habits. Do you ever treat yourself? What does a daily menu look like for you?

Sorry for all the questions. Im just so curious. I'm exactly 2 weeks post op and 15 lbs down. I'm hoping to reach my goal weight by March/April.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
