Can I Taste Foods...

Recommended Posts

if I'm still on the Protein Shakes part of my diet? I'm on day 5 of post op and I'm gonna make a chili and puree it and freeze it. I'm just needing something to do tonight. But do you think it'll hurt me if I just taste it (you know to know what spices to add)

I did the same and licked the spoon. Just avoided anything chunky.

awesome! thanks! I made my chili - but after 4 weeks of all "sweet" Protein Shakes and I found it crazy salty and it's all low sodium stuff (except for the tomatoes from a can). Hopefully once I blend it the chicken and the Beans will level it out. Can't wait to eat it :)

I almost licked the juice from some baked Beans but was afraid. I see the doc on Wednesday and hoping I get the green light for puréed. My husband promised me his famous chili but he's using turkey instead of beef.

lol oops! I did 1/4 cup pureed chili with a baby spoonful of plain greek yogurt (tastes like sour cream but better for ya) and guacamole. it was a little spicy which sucked bc you can't drink for 30 mins but well worth it to have some different flavor!

tomorrow is pureed ham and eggs, then some pureed crab cakes yay for real food again!

-oh, and I can hear my mom's voice in the back of my head warning me that even licking the spoon leads to unwanted calories and carbs :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
