2 Years Post Op~~New Guy :)

Did you or any of you deal with people who didn't support your decision for surgery? I have a few people in my life who chose to hate on my choice and my progress.. I ignore them but honestly it gets old! Any advice would be amazing!

I truly believe those that aren't supportive are jealous! They don't know us any other way but being "big". I honestly wouldn't give a crap what people think. It's your life and your decision. Yes it's nice to have the support but if they can't give it to you- it should make you question their friendship. A true friend doesn't judge and will ALWAYS support you! You have plenty of support on here and hopefully some in the "real world" (meaning not online lol). Next time they say something to you- I would just thank them for their opinion and just let them know nicely that from now on if they cant support you, you would like them to keep their comments and "advice" to themselves! DO NOT BE ASHAMED of what you are doing. Those that have never been through this have NO CLUE how hard it is!! Be strong and stick up for yourself!!!

Congratulations on the success. I just did the surgery 7/23/12 and have lost 21 pounds but seem to have stalled and not lost anymore after just 2 weeks. Is this normal? I haven't been able to eat or drink shakes due to bodily reaction. I have lived on Protein Water since the surgery.

Will the weight loss pick up again?

Wow small world I live in York! Only 30 mins from you!

My surgery was on 7/11/12 so almost a month out. I'm getting ready to be more aggressive with exercise. What do you do? And did you ease into exercising or just jump right in?

Congratulations on the success. I just did the surgery 7/23/12 and have lost 21 pounds but seem to have stalled and not lost anymore after just 2 weeks. Is this normal? I haven't been able to eat or drink shakes due to bodily reaction. I have lived on Protein Water since the surgery.

Will the weight loss pick up again?

I had surgery on 6/6/12 and I'm on a stall too I've lost 75lbs since surgery and haven't lost anything in 2 Weeks. I have trouble with Protein Shakes too I drink the Isopure 0 carb icy orange drink it's good but expensive.

Any advise on how to jump start the weight loss again because I'm stuck at 372 lbs.

Stalls are a natural part of the weight loss process and although frustrating are usually nothing to worry about. That said, there are some things you can check that may shorten the length of the stall or even jump start your weight loss.

  • Are you getting ALL of your doctor's recommended daily Protein? There are lots of reasons why protein is so important but sometimes you can break through a plateau by increasing your intake of protein - eggs, low-fat cheese, fish, chicken, turkey, or tuna - for two or three days. Try to avoid anything processed. The science behind it is that the intake of pure amino acids increases your metabolism and forces the body to burn stored fat.
  • Are you getting your doctor's recommended daily calorie intake? Plateaus can be "artificially" created if you aren't eating enough calories. The body reacts by burning less stored fuel. Essentially, your metabolic rate slows as the body attempts to conserve fuel in response to a "famine" state. Reducing calories is important for losing weight but it is not the whole story and you can go too far.
  • Are you drinking a lot of fluids? Preferably Water (ugh) but all fluids help flush the system out and can actually increase weight loss.
  • Are you staying active? Exercise will increase the speed of your weight loss, increase the total amount of weight you will lose, and help you to maintain your goal weight when you get there. Forget about training to be the next superhero! Remember the Prime Directive - everything you do including your exercise must be sustainable. I walk at least four times a week. I started out walking 15 to 20 minutes and slowly worked my way up to 45 to 55 minutes and two and a half to three miles. I enjoy it and that makes it sustainable. Five years of an exercise plan that you enjoy is infinitely more valuable than five weeks of frustrating yourself and ultimately giving up.

Stay focused on following the protocol, stay active, and stay away from the scales for a couple of weeks. Before you know it the stall will pass and you'll be right back on track to the new you!

I can only say that two weeks post op I have lost 25 pounds and no longer have high blood pressure, cannot sleep with a Cpap anymore, and I feel so energetic... And then ask the person who is unsupportive what they have accomplished in the last two weeks... You cannot put negativity on good health... The numbers speak for themselves...

Welcome to the group :) I'm Maybelin but everyone knows me as Mami lmbo. I'm 33 years very proud sexy looking woman now lmbo. I had WLS May 30th 2012. I'm 4 months now. I went from size 18 to now 12 and 211 to now 139. I'm very happy on the scale & in person but in the mirror I don't feel 139. Having kids sure changes your mind & body. Any advice?

This is such great advice! I haven't had surgery yet, but this was very helpful to read!

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
