kpaige77 49 Posted July 28, 2012 This sounds ridiculous but I am terrified of missing food after surgery. I am tore between being mentally ready for this change and being sad about not having certain things ever again. Anyone else feeling this way or had these feelings before surgery? I just need to know km not crazy!
theresa 13 Posted July 28, 2012 I have had those feelings too. For me I mourned my food losses after surgery. I used to smell my families food just to help get over it. Thankfully those feelings are better now. Some of the foods I thought I would miss I don't. I was very surprised by that too. Good luck to you.
2ndTimesTheCharm 68 Posted July 28, 2012 I'm feeling a lil like that too...there are things I will miss dearly and I am hoping that if I ever try them after surgery, that I get a vicious dump episode right after to teach me a lesson!
Beachbum 70 Posted July 28, 2012 I think it's normal to be apprehensive and grieve food. It's been a big part of your life and suddenly something's are gone. When I start to feel sad, I think about how sad it would be for my three children to go through life without a Mom. That is more powerful to me than anything. My mantra is " no food is as important as a good, long life with my kids". I say that toys elf multiple times a day. Good luck!! 1 jadeharper reacted to this
Krystyneh 55 Posted July 28, 2012 My husband's 2 aunts had gastric bypass about 4-5 years ago and look great. They don't deny themselves anything. They will take a bite of whatever they want just to satisfy the craving. I'm scared about missing food but I know I'll be okay
kyletx06 3 Posted July 28, 2012 I'm scared also. It will be twice as hard for me, because I take a med that increases my appetite. However, I'm determined to get this weight off! I'm going to try my hardest. I'd like to keep myself busy because I eat more when I'm bored.
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted July 28, 2012 "Life style changes" is more about control than denial. In the long run, the number of foods that you can never have again is really quite small, if any. What I found quite surprising is that you really can be absolutely satisfied with a bite or two. Amazing. You might find some good guidelines in my post "The Prime Directive". You're gonna love the new you!! 1 kyletx06 reacted to this

muffin1001 11 Posted July 28, 2012 I had to have counselling before my op was approved. The surgeon believed that I was addicted to food and wouldn't be able to cope when food was taken away. To cut a long story short he was right and the counselling was very helpful. My op is aug 23rd and I'm sure it's still going to be the hardest thing I've ever done in my life but I'm going to do it anyway, I hate being trapped in this body. 1 2ndTimesTheCharm reacted to this

But they eat moderately. It's their lifestyle. We can do it too in the maintenance phase. Just have one Hershey kiss instead of a handful etc. Or have a bite of your friends bday cake instead of a whole piece (again during maintenance) And your taste preferences truly will change. I cut out most refined carbs before surgery and now all I want is pork tenderloin and fresh produce. It will get easier! 3 Mrs.D, DLCoggin and kyletx06 reacted to this
