Cooking/organizing For Returning To Work

Recommended Posts

Today went to the grocery store and got so excited when I saw all the sugar free products they had like ketchup, BBQ Sauce, fruit spread, maple Syrup, etc.

I found a buch of stuff that will work in the purée phase. There are egg drop Soup packets where you just add Water and eggs and it's no carbs!!

Crab was on sale so I'm going to make a bunch of crab cakes with no bread crumbs and purée it then bake in muffin tins and freeze in gallon bags. Can be pulled out for a yummy lunch. Also going to make a bunch of quiche bites from eggface! Am going to put refried Beans with cheese and chilli in tiny containers and freeze too!

Hopefully this will be an easy way to get Protein in a hurry!

Will probably also do lots of tuna salad.

Does anyone else have money or time saving tips for returning back to work? Anything that will make out mornings or evenings go smoother would help!!

Aww I'm sorry! Truth be told I rode in the little wheelchair cart when I went to the store on day5. It's amazing how much energy it takes. You will feel much better soon!

So I do have a wonderfully amazing chicken salad recipe but it involves walnuts and red grapes - more deli style. So I need to tweak it into a pouch friendly version. I'll keep ya posted.

I want to use plain Greek yogurt instead of mayo for extra Protein. I've done it with tuna and it was great!

Soups like French onion with no crouton or chilli

Fajitas with no wrap. Shrimp scampi, grilled or broiled fish, tuna salad. When I did Atkins, I found that you can order certain things that aren't on the menu at sit down restaurants like a grilled chicken breast with ranch or blue cheese. Yum!

I had a work trip 6 weeks out, though I was on the soft food stage and live/ travelled to non rny friendly places it was easy. I had Soups, the insides of a fajita, steak, cheese platters, etc and lost 6 lbs too. Just remember to go slow. And if you can just share your food with someone or make it to go

Hi Tammy,

If your not allergic, seafood is the way to go. Crab legs take a while to eat and no one can see how much you are or are not eating. It's also the softest meat!

Great idea! I can't wait to have a great excuse to get crab legs! Around here though, the only way to eat crabs is whole with lots of old bay - can't wait to do that yumm!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
