Hey Pink.... get it done all at once. I had my RNY on 4/9 then ending up with a really bad gallbladder attack, had a ultrasound done and had to have another surgery 6/26. It was not fun having two major surgeries in such a short time. I really wish doctors would have your gallbladder checked BEFORE RNY surgery so they can do everything all at once.

I had a hernia, gallbladder and cyst removed in one surgery and was grateful because it was only once under anesthesia . I have a great surgeon that was also willing to do everything at once.

Many doctors will remove the gall bladder at the same time they are doing rny - even if there isn't currently a problem. BBdoodle's experience is quite common following rny and it's easily removed during the rny procedure and adds very little additional time to the surgery. And it avoids a second surgery and anasthesia - both big plusses!!

I had my gall bladder removed in 2008 and that surgery was easy no pain afterwards not even from the gas but I go for gastric bypass in exactly a week and I'm sooo nervous

@everyone Yea my Ultrasound tech/doc was like they can knock everything out at once since its all so close he said it would only take a few extra mins or so.

My mom just had both procedures on the 9th. She said that the pain from the rny area is worse than the gallbladder. Her two week appt. was yesterday. She's lost 22 lbs already! 14% of her body weight.

Did you have any symptoms with the gall stones? Or did they find them through the ultra sound?

I'm hoping to get mine taken out when I have GB. I haven't had any issues other than alot of indigestion. Which is a symptom..

I also had two surgeries at once. My rny and a hernia repair. I'm glad I got both done at same time.

Yes I did have symptoms but I was so used to the pain I thought it was just normal until he told me what they were and then I realized I HAVE THAT. (0.0) it put things in a new light for sure.

I would also say be thankful you are getting it out. I had my gull bladder put three years ago and the pain leading up to it was worse than child birth

I am in the same boat as you! I had no idea I had stones until my doc told me at my last apppointment. I'm scheduled on 8/7 for surgery and he said there is about a 50/50 chance he will take my gall bladder too. So I guess I'll just have to be surprised if I wake up with one or not lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
