Recommended Posts

Have some good news and bad news guys... Good news first: I had my first full night of pain-free sleep since my surgery and to top it off my kids let me sleep past 9:00 AM!!! (Awesome!!)

Now for the bad news: while I was sleeping my mother and father drive down to visit me and I awoke to the smell of one of my mothers FAMOUS BREAKFASTS!! We are both chef's and my family owns restaurants. UGH!! CURSE YOU CLEAR LIQUIDS!!! Lol that's all.. Rant over.. (As I stay locked in my room until I hear the dishwasher from Breakfast plates)

Lol!!

Its difficult at times and then other times it is easy to pass up the things we once loved. My taste has changed soooooo much. The things I once loved do not even appeal to me and if they do, I taste them and say "I don't even like this anymore".. its strange - but a good thing I guess. Are you still on liquid?

I was 6 days post op on July 4th.... My husband cooked ribs, burgers, hot dogs and corn on the grill. The smell was overwhelming and you couldnt go anywhere without smelling it. I was on liquids. I went upstairs and tried to take a nap! That was not fun! But I made it. So I can relate!

Congratulations on the sleep and I'm jealous of the sleeping in!

Wow. I've read about a lot of folks facing a lot of different challenges but yours has to rank right up near the top - two chefs and a family that owns restaurants. But I've gotta tell you - probably the single biggest surprise that I've had with this whole journey is discovering that there is a lot, a LOT, of food out there that is rich in Protein, low in calories, and absolutely delicious! To this day I am amazed and constantly adding to my spreadsheet of great foods that meet all of those criteria. Does your family's restaurants offer healthy menu alternatives?

Wow! The first part is great. Especially the sleeping in part. Honestly I cannot remember a time that I went to bed before 10pm and woke up later than 5-6am. Seriously congrats. Go buy them kids something! lol The second part is really difficult and I can relate. No one in my house is watching what they eat, so they eat all kinds of stuff that even at 13 weeks I CHOOSE not to eat. I started this journey to see it through til the end and that is what I plan to do. It is not easy sometimes and I struggle, but so far I have made it. That is all that matters.

It's hard. Im still in liquids and my uncle just had a BBQ with his amazing smoked ribs. It I just temporary and we will get through it. This could be a cool chance to expand the menu in the restaurant if you don't have many low carb high Protein options (while giving you yummy things to have at work)!

Yeah I spoke with my surgeon and the CFO of the hospital about a possible bariatric menu. Highly healthy that's tastes devine!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
