Ok, I have been checking out gym memberships and I am not sure that is going to be in my budget. I am actually looking at getting a couple pieces of equipment to have here at home. I have a treadmill and ab lounger. I was looking at getting a bowflex and a recumbent bike. What kinds of machines do you workout on when you go to the gym or what kind of equipment do you have at home? I am needing help in my core area, bust, arms and legs (haha pretty much everywhere!!) Please let me know what you do. I have been finding this stuff next to nothing on craigslist. So much cheaper than a gym membership. Thanks so much!!

If you have a YMCA in your area, they offer an open door policy. The policy where I'm at is if you make under $60,000 a year, they will base the membership in your income. You get a full membership to all the classes, facilities etc. Here you just have to bring in your tax papers and 2 pay stubs.

Wow! That is great! The closest one to me is almost an hour away...so that is not going to be good because that will give me an excuse not to go. That would be a great thing for me and my kids if it was closer though. Thanks so much for the information though.

I must confess my equipment list is quite short - a pair of tennies. Which I bought at costco for $15. LOL. And my exercise is decidedly low tech - I walk. 2.5 to 3 miles, 45 mins to an hour, always with my black lab, at least four times a week and more often whenever possible. Hasn't done much for my abs. Or my biceps. But it sure has done wonders for my weight loss! Good luck in your search and looking forward to hearing what great deals you found!

If you have Comcast, they have a ton of exercise videos on demand for free.

I was told at my pre op walk walk walk. No gym or weights for 6 months. I cannot even walk my lab bcuz she is 112lbs and the pulling could hurt my surgery. The other thing would be swimming once all your wounds have healed.

I agree with DL.... walking has been about it for me too. I have a couple of pair of really good tennis shoes and I just hit it everyday. I did download some apps... daily butt, arm, and ab workouts. They are 7 minutes and I do them sporadically at best. In the past anytime I invested in equipment it became a coat rack... so Im just sticking with good old fashioned walking this time around.

so what about using resistant bands

I walk the beach with my German Shepherd, and on inclement weather days I use a recumbant bike on my 3 season porch. I also do the Comcast On Demand videos with an exercise ball and resistance bands. I have found that I can be more consistent in my work out routines if I don't have to go to the gym, so I encourage you to get the equipment so you can do it at your home. For those that enjoy the social environment of a gym, it's a less than favorable option, but I like to exercise in the comfort of my home!

I downloaded the app called workout trainer. It has all different levels of work outs you can do. They explain each exercise to you and tell you when it's time to rest. They have beginners to advanced.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
