mrsallenrn 39 Posted July 26, 2012 I know this is kind of trivial, but has anyone started drinking out of straws consistently post op? I'm 12 weeks out and seem to gulp too much when drinking out of bottles. Most of my insulated glasses have straws. Experiences anyone?
my3stars 88 Posted July 26, 2012 I am 8 yrs post op and use them all the time. However it is advised against it because it draws air in the pouch causing it ti stretch.
working4shoes 55 Posted July 26, 2012 I was also told not to use straws. I have a hard time remembering to just sip.
BBdoodle 483 Posted July 26, 2012 I too was instructed "NO STRAWS". I am 13 wks post op and only sip, sip, sip. I do miss using a straw !!!
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted July 26, 2012 No straws. Not worth the risk of stretching the pouch. Gulping not a good idea either for the same reason. Like BBdoodle said, the name of the game is sip, sip, sip.
HamDan 61 Posted July 28, 2012 I use straws and im 3 months post-op. It justakes me belch more, but I am able to get more fluids in instead of gulping and feeling uncomfortable. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
DaniG 54 Posted July 28, 2012 My surgeon said no straws for 6 weeks. Its funny how different each surgeon instructs us post op. A lot of it is just their own beliefs. I say if you feel comfortable doing it and its helping you drink, use one.

Beachbum 70 Posted July 28, 2012 I use a Nalgene sippy cup. It controls the flow and is a manageable size. Fill it up 5-6 times a day. It holds 12oz. I also like that I can fill it with ice as I like drinks to be super cold
