sunshine413 343 Posted July 23, 2012 I actually had an insurance agent write a policy to cover RNY bypass. My insurance company at the time (United Healthcare) excluded all weight loss surgeries, so I was told BCBSNC (Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC) would be the best bet. Problem is, it's not effective yet and I REALLY REALLY want to know what they require. I have no preexisting conditions (although I've been heavy since I can remember!), so idk if I'm going to be asked to jump through any hoops? Help!! I was ready for surgery yesterday! tamihill 24 Posted July 23, 2012 Go to bcbsnc.com and do a search for gastric bypass. It will tell you exactly what you need to do as far as pre-requisitions. Hope that helps. Good luck...

Thanks, Tamihill. Do you think it varies by policy or it is what it is for bcbs?
tamihill 24 Posted July 24, 2012 Thanks, Tamihill. Do you think it varies by policy or it is what it is for bcbs? I'm pretty sure what you read for bcbsnc is what you need. You can always call information. They should be able to answer it for you. Good luck. And let me know what happens....
sunshine413 343 Posted July 24, 2012 You were 100% correct! I searched on the bcbsnc website and there was an entire 10 pg doc on Surgical Treatment of Morbid Obesity. Thanks!
