When I had my gallbladder removed, my kids were really worried... Maybe even a little too worried. As much as I tried explaining that it was not a big deal, a simple procedure, they were still worried as hell. I dont really want to put them through that again, that's the reason why I'm choosing not to tell them.

I guess everyone knows their own children well enough to decide whether or not they should be told.

I haven't told my oldest daughter (8) yet. I will tell her shortly before surgery though. I also think its a good idea to let kids know all of the pre op testing that you have done to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery in the first place! All of that is reassuring to me and I am sure it would be reassuring to her as well!

My 15 year old in her eyes never saw me as a fat woman. Big but comfortable and she loved me big. We could eat anywhere go anywhere. After I told her about surgery she was against it. Didn't want me to change. Now after losing weight & her seeing my size smaller & letting her finish my food she is beginning to like the idea of having me happy & we can still eat out but I pick better choices. Now that I guess she saw I didn't die she is ok with it. Hubby humm he is coming around to it. My younger babies 4 & 2 will enjoy me the best the new me. I now love my life & feel I made the best decision.

I myself don't have any kids but my nieces and nephews range in ages between 19 to 1years old. The older ones I have told and they are like of it will make you feel better then do it. When they aske what the surgery would do to me i just explained that it would give them back the auntie that was able to go out and do fin things with the instead of having to sit after walking for 5 minutes. So maybe if u explain like it will give them thier mommy back that is health and able to do everything they want.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
