My alcoholic stepmother just told me I'm taking the easy way out by having rny. I almost started crying because she was being so harsh. Then I thought, well, drinking alcohol and beer all day everyday is taking the easy way out of life... And with me having irritable mouth syndrome (anything comes out...no filter at all, lol) I told her I felt the same way about her. So now I'm a troublemaker! lol

This is going to be very strange when I lose weight. The "FAT GIRL WITH NO FILTER" has always been my catchphrase. Now I have to come up with a new one!

Hmm. I wish I had some answers for you. Have you always had problems with your mother-in-law? And how does your husband feel about the situation? Sounds like she has some real issues if she drinks all the time.. Maybe you can tell her if she goes to AA that would be the easy way out for her. Since she can't stop drinking on her own. Just a thought.

Today I read this: People who lack the courage to persue their dreams often try to crush the dreams of others...seemed fitting for your post :)

You know deep inside that you are not taking the easy way out. This is challenging. Moreso than any diet and exercise program out there. And not to mention you are brave. It's really a shame that people don't take the time to learn about the surgery before they voice their opinions. It's difficult but I would recommend taking the high road. Let her voice her opinions - she obviously needs to do so to make herself feel better. Just know that her opinions and mean words won't stop you from reaching your goals. You deserve the best and she can't stop you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
