saw3376 3 Posted July 22, 2012 I'm very excited but very nervous at the same time. I've done a lot of research but I don't think that can completely prepare you. That is why I joined this group to hear from actual people who are also planning the surgery or have had the surgery already. One of my biggest challenges has been quitting smoking. Has anyone gone through the same issue?
ginabeena1129 8 Posted July 23, 2012 As of tomorrow, i am one week away from surgery as well. My biggest challenge is the 2 week required liquid diet by my doctor. I'm half way through and day one and two I was so sick and lethargic. I'm allowed one small lunch but everything else is glucerna shakes. I've been slightly cheating by eating lettuce with fat free dressing. But I figure it's not fat and like hardly any calories.
saw3376 3 Posted July 23, 2012 I believe a two weeks liquid diet would be very challenging however my doctor does not require this. Only for 24 hours before surgery.
Krystyneh 55 Posted July 23, 2012 That's awesome!!! My surgery is set for Friday August 3rd. I'm on day 4 of my 14 day pre-op diet but it's not an all liquid diet. I've already lost 5 pounds since being on it. You will do great for surgery are you excited?

Lebim 381 Posted July 23, 2012 My BIGGEST issue was quitting smoking. I smoked 1 to 1.5 picks a day for years. I was able to successfully quit with the help of the patch for about 2 weeks (which got me over my smoking&driving trigger) and then I switched to the 'finity' e-cigarette which you can buy at walgreens. I used the e-cigarette for a few weeks and one night while having wine I was using it and it made me so nauseous that I never used it again. Everyone i worked with, all my friends and my parents (who I live with) smoked while I was quitting, so that can not be an excuse. It's one of the hardest things i've had to do but now I'm 3-4 months without cigarettes and it feels amazing. I save so much money (I suggest doing what I did and using some of the money you save from not buying cigarettes as a gift to yourself for quitting. I.e. I now get my nails done regularly which costs me $80/m which is way cheaper than smoking which cost me $200/m. It also keeps me from picking it up again because I just love having beautiful nails.) You will love being a non smoker believe me. Having your entire life not surround around cigarettes is awesomely liberating in a way you just can't understand right now. And it's true, smokers smell like SHIT. - Kaylee Ann ~ Surgiversary: 6/11/12 2 my3stars and barebones reacted to this
