What Is Your Ideal Size?

Im a 22/24 now. At my healthiest I was a 10. Im also 5'10 so I think anything smaller would make me look unhealthy.

My surgery is scheduled for 2/25/13. I am a 60-year-old and fashion really does not concern me, my health does and it is in awful shape. All my extra weight is in the middle.

I would be happy at a 10/12, anything less and I think I would be sickly looking.

Funny you would say a 16 is out the plus size... I was led to believe plus starts at a size 12... I don't think I will ever see myself smaller... Unfortunately we don't see what others see. The verbal abuse I have suffered has been so damaging. Still trying to heal my mind along with my body.

I know what u mean about the abuse. Mine was mainly emotional from my husband and verbal from his GF. I'm healing my mind as well. I've come a long way, but still have more to go. Good luck!!!

I feel fine. Everyone keeps telling me that I look really frail and too thin. I feel like I should keep losing weight. It's like I'm not content until I feel skinny. I've been told that I looked my best when I was in my size 6 jeans. Im like you. I know I'm slim..but I don't feel skinny yet. I know that a size 0 must be skinny..but I don't feel skinny. I dunno, it's a mental thing. I'm still not happy with my body. I think I'll feel better once all the baggy skin comes off. I've already had a Tummy Tuck but my thighs, butt and boobs belong to an 80 year old woman.

Hello IDK if it has to do with not meeting my weight goal by age 34 which passed 12/7 I'm stuck at 127 and I see my surgeon(they change date to earlier) to this Friday. I wanted to be 125lbs either by the time I hit 34 or by the time I see the surgeon. I feel so down. I now feel I will never make it,and yeah I know losing 84lbs it's a lot,but i feel that if I didn't have so many stalls I would had made it,but oh well... Now I have a new goal to hit 125lbs by January 1, 2013 then if not then by my surgery anniversary May 30, 2013 if not by June 1, 2013 but I want to be 110lbs by then. I'm gonna make it. I have to.

I believe You're right about no such thing as perfection. It, in my mind, is similar to an opinion. Your perfection may not be my perfection, but every body has a sense of theirs. Yes we or some one will always have something to complain about :-(

I am 5'4". I don't know what size I would want to be but I know my goal weight is 120-125. I am at 204 now. When I was skinny I always had a butt, so I am sure that will stay with my luck. Boobs are getting smaller which I can deal with. They weren't that big in the first place but a pain working out. Lol. I want to be really toned. As toned as I can get. My goal is not to have to get any surgery to fix anything. Being 23 I hope my skin stretches back as much as it can but my skin loves stretch marks so who the heck knows if that will happen much! Nov. 2nd was my surgery. Once tax time comes I am signing up for my gym membership (since my brother just closed his which I was on :( ) and working hard!

The funny thing is I could never imagine myself skinny or small but I always wanted to be a size 14... to be anything smaller than what I am is a blessing!! I'm currently a 18/20 depending on the store but to know I could possibly be in the single digits is amazing and unbelievable!! I guess 150/160 would be a my ideal weight

You know I never really thought about it....just want to get off BP meds and be able to buy clothes in a regular store. I've never been smaller than size 12 other than one outfit that was a size 10. 12 would be cool but, I'm keeping things open. :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
