Feeling Isolated Starting The Preop Diet...

Recommended Posts

Isolated how? In your eating? Well, drinking. Having family dinners? I suppose mentally preparing yourself by saying, "What I'm consuming isn't important, being with my family is". It won't be forever. You can get through this! If you want to say more about why you're feeling that way, we'd love to try to help.

I am used to eating lunch with my husband and this is the first day I havent gotten to. I know its petty but I will get used to it, its just hard to change everything not just the food but your pattern of life as well. Thanks for listening.

Well, essentially it should be the eating. You can still sit with your husband and it should take a long time to have your 'meal' to get ready for after and it takes 20 mins for 4 oz of fluids. LOL Keeping company with your hubby should still be special time. Having different things to 'eat' will become common soon enough. You'll be fine. :D

I know how u feel...I'm supposed to start my pre-op diet tomorrow but I started it today and my husband isn't home since he's an over the road truck driver but we live with my parents and our daughter is 4 1/2 and eats anything and everything and she doesn't understand that mommy can't eat what she can lol she always shares food with me but now can't. Worst part is Tuesday is my husband's and my 2 year wedding anniversary and we can't go out to eat :( I'm allowed to eat food just no more then 600-800 calories.

It's a socialization thing... At least for me it was. Every family get together has always been centered around a meal or some sort of food... After surgery I really struggled with that... I almost felt sorry for myself when I was so limited on what I could have when everyone else was pigging out... Try thinking or looking at the big picture... I have lost 93 lbs in 5 and 1/2 months... I certainly don't feel sorry for myself now... Just keep always looking towards the future...best of luck... And you can do this!!!!

When you have those moments it is best to take a step back and realize that you are still able and should sit at the table with everyone and spend quality time with them. You will be able to have regular foods again in moderation.

It's not easy but gets easier!

You are so right Jenneliza! I am still pre and may be singing a different song when it's my turn. I am just getting myself geared up for that time now. Hopefully I can keep these thoughts during the trying time to come.

Guess we just have to start looking at affairs and get togethers in a different way. For ourselves. food is a major part for most everyone and we need to smile and agree with everyone and inside know we are doing the right thing for us and food is being put in it's place now! Low on the list of importance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
