I'm beginning to worry about bone loss more than ever now. I was on Lupron for six months for a tumor. I was taking Calcium then and continue to take it still. On Friday I was horsing around with the bf, and I twisted my finger. Not very hard or out of place, but I am not in a cast for six weeks. It seems that I broke the knuckle on my hand above my index finger. It's in half. I'm really worried that my bones are not as strong as they once were, and if there is much more beyond calcium sups to help.

Please excuse my iPhone thinking it knows what I'm saying. I am now in a cast for the next six weeks.

You might want to ask your doctor about doing a bone density test. If there's a problem, they can treat it. If not, the test will be worth the peace of mind!!

Thank you so much Mami! DC I've been thinking about just that since it happened. I'm so frustrated with constantly telling me to take Motrin. I have to tell them over and over, I can't. I'm so tired almost a week out of being in so much pain! Sighs :'(

Definitely get a bone density test. It's called a dexa scan. You have plenty of risk factors for insurance to pay for it. Make sure it is a full one that measures your spine and hips - not the one that only do the heel they are worthless. You will be able to find out if you have osteoporosis or osteopenia which is like borderline osteoporosis.

Oh and in the meantime stay away from caffeine and make sure that when you take Calcium take Vitamin d with it.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you so much!! It's good to have that advice. I take Calcium that has D in it. I just hope it all comes back okay. I don't want more broken bones. It really does hurt as much as it sounds like.

Ridiculous as it sounds, my black lab bit me about five weeks ago. She snapped at a spray bottle I was trying to use to spray a topical antiobiotic on a hotspot on her neck - my thumb happened to be in the way. Her upper fang went right through the center of my nail, lower fang right through the pad of my thumb. And - she broke it in three places. The ortho did new x-rays yesterday and it definitely is healing but it seems like it takes forever. I can definitely relate to your pain - broken bones hurt like hell!!

Ouch!!!! I hope you are better now!! I still can't bend my finger and since the doc did not see fit to cast or brace my hand, I have she a lot of tears because it swells still and hurts all the way up my arm. I have had to figure out a new way to write.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
