Losing hope

Recommended Posts

I think one of the things that I didn't realize was how long the head work would take. I researched and read and read some more before I got the band and I thought that once I got it I would be well on my way. It certainly hasn't come off as fast as I had hoped it would but I'm sort of thankful for that. Writing down what I eat and keeping a journal about my band experience and being in 12 step is making me realize that there was so much work I had to do in my head in regards to food issues. I totally agree with another post that made the comment that it really takes 9 or 10 months to wrap your mind around the changes you have to make and for some I'm sure that it's longer than that. As everyone else said.....we all know that we could easily be up 20 or 30 pounds in a year and I would sure rather be down 30 than up 30. I hope you feel encouraged to start fresh with renewed optimism....don't give up....have faith in yourself that you can do this.

How many fills have you had? Do you feel restricted when you eat? It's possible that you just haven't hit that "sweet spot" yet with your fills. If you feel like you're just relying totally on willpower, then something is definitely wrong.

Hope things get easier for you soon.

I have had 3 fills so far, but I did make an appointment for a few weeks. It's strange, sometimes I feel as if I can eat lots of one thing, yet get full easily from another, if that makes any sense. I actually havent eaten too much at all today, but am just starting to feel full. Everyone keeps telling me I need to eat more, not less!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
