Congratulations on your surgery. I had mine may 30, 2012. I can't eat much. I was told over time your stomach grows or something like that. Have you change the way you eat compare to the first time after surgery when you began to eat normal food? Are you cheating fast food restaurant? Drinking diet or regular soda? Not exercising? I'm not an expert but I was told we get comfortable in our body & start doing the no no stuff & end up gaining weight.

Almost everyone I know that has had the surgery loses a lot (if not too much) and ends up gaining like 20lbs back

I agree. I don't think 20 pounds is a whole lot. Just keep an eye on things so you don't keep gaining.

What's the outcome? Did you see the dietician to figure the weigh gain?

I do think I need to excercise more but I dont have energy because I'm severly anemic. And on top of that I am always hungry. I take the 20lb weight gain serious I have a long life ahead of me and I need to be healty for my family

I hope you can find another dietician soon. I just got one. Are you taking Iron pills?

Hi Kida

I had RNY in July 08 and after about a year and a half I stopped losing... Which was fine because everyone kept telling me I was getting too skinny. But I too have gained back some weight which is around 30lbs. I know it's because I eat a whole lot more and I stopped working out. I know I need to get back on track so thats why I'm so glad I found this forum. Im also am severely anemic. I have to get Iron intravenously every two weeks. Iron pills and supplements don't give me what I need. But I think the key to getting back is to start some kinda of work out regime and get back into planning meals.

Is this level of anemia normal?

I am 8 years post op and have been anemic for 7 of them. I have met many that are not, so I guess it is individual.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
