Low/no sugar added liquids in different flavors. Staying hydrated is going to be a focus and having a variety is good because your taste may change.

I had to sleep in a recliner for the first 3 days. Make sure you have someone there to help you get up. I'm very independent and it irratated me to not be able to get up on my own but was grateful to have my husband there to help.

If you haven't done so already, now is a good time to sample some Protein shakes and see what you like. Myoplex, Muscle Milk, Synthrax and Pure Protein (my favorite) are all popular. Most of the shake manufacturers also make powders in their most popular flavors - powder is about half the cost of the ready-to-drink shakes.< /p>

You can also see my high protein food list at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AquBbFV701VcdGZFc2p2Q29QTXIxc0tVU1lxMklBOHc#gid=0 . Special thanks to Dallas for posting it on the Net. Good ideas on there once you're back on regular foods.

I found that I don't like using sippy cups like the dr recommended but small bathroom cups are perfect. I agree about tastes changing. I prefer Water now to any kind of sugar free flavored drink. A body pillow or just some extra pillows is a grea idea too. I'm using 5 right now.

I hate the taste bud change. I lived on crystal light packets at work. Drank probably a gallon or more of it in a 12 hour shift. Now they all taste bad to me except the citrus one. I dont like the taste of plain Water. :( What to drink when I return to work??

I'll have to try some Mio. Any specific flavor suggestions? I never thought about diet snapple. I avoid the soda aisle where the snapple is at my grocery store and Walmart. And of course the gas station is way off limits cause those dirty, nasty, calling my name more and more frequently cigarettes are in there staring me down at the check out;)

I have to admit that I really don't care for Water, so what I do is brew some Decaf green tea with mint and keep that in the fridge. I find it works quite well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
