Hey for all you ladies out there, I need some advice. I was told that it's not healthy to get pregnant 18-24 months after surgery for obvious reasons. I was just wondering if anyone had any info on what happens if u do become pregnant a few months after surgery?

kristaroberts,

Allot of the issues with becoming pregnant after weight loss surgery, or rather immediatly after have everything to do with nutrition and stress. The issue is that you are already desperatly trying to learn how to just get enough nutrition for you let alone a baby. Also you have to think about the added stress that being pregnant puts on a normal healthy person and then imagine that on a body that has just undergone WLS. Getting pregnant soon after weight loss has a risk of several complications. I would advise you to speak to your bariatric dr as well as your nutritionist on this.

Basically what i have read in some of my research is that it has happened and you can be successfull, however, the issue is that "can be". The risk vs reward is not there. That is the risk outweighs the reward. I wont go into detail but if you do some research you will find allot of issues can develop and most are in relation to the normal growth of a healthy fetus in relation to the nutritional issues that can develop. Its not the end of the world if it happens, but you will have a heck of time with the nutritional requirements. Obviously the further out the better, or at least after the majority of the rapid weight loss is done "says 2 bariatric surg. i found online info from."

Great question!!

Ps i'm not a lady but wanted to add my 2 cents sorry =(

Good information I am 7 months out and was thinking about trying to get prego in a few months. I've already lost the bulk of my weight but there are still risks.

Thanks for asking this question. Im 35 yrs old, and do not have kids yet but definitely want them. I asked this question and my dr told me he'd address it if it happened but do whatever I could to avoid getting pregnant!! Obviously wasn't very helpful info- lol.

Go get a pregnancy test to know for sure, then either it will be negitive and everything is fine, or you will be pregnant and you should go to the doctor. But you won't know until you get a test. There is no use in freaking out.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
