Meeting With The Nurse Practitioner This Morning

Recommended Posts

I have gotten my referral from my insurance, attended the required seminar, had the phych evaluation and am meeting with the nurse practitioner this morning and was hoping someone could tell me what I should expect. I guess what I don't know is what the process is from here...

Also, what determines whether you have to do a 6 month diet before they will do the surgery?

My insurance required all people to do the 6 month diet. It is according to your specific insurance and sometimes the heavier you are some insurances require it but not for someone not quite so large. Best thing is to either call your insurance carrier and/or talk to the insurance person at the surgeon's office.

When I saw the nurse practioner (actually I just saw the surgeon) he agreed I was a candidate for the surgery and had the papers submitted. I had already done all the testing, 6 month diet, psych eval, endosocopy, etc before I was even allowed to see the surgeon (per my insurance requirements). Then my surgery was approved, surgery scheduled, did pre-op testing and no pre-op diet and went into surgery.

But you will find everyone had a different journey and requirements, so best to check with your insurance and surgeon. Good luck!

It is based on what your insurance wants u to do. I had to do a whole bunch of blood work, sleep apnea test, 6 months supervised nutritionist appointments. 2 psychological evaluations, then meet with the nurse practitioner and dietician where I'm having my gastric bypass and they submitted the claim to my insurance and I got approved Tuesday and tomorrow (my dad's bday) I go for my final appointment which is the pre-op diet appointment and I have more blood work done plus possibly a EKG then on July 25th I have a pre-op physical with my PCP THEN FINALLY surgery Friday August 3rd lol which happens to be my Aunt's birthday

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
