I Got My Surgery Date!

Recommended Posts

So I found out today that my insurance approved me for gastric bypass and that my surgery is scheduled for Friday August 3rd :) WOOHOO I go for my pre-op diet class this friday which is my dad's birthday then Friday July 20th I start my pre-op diet which isn't all liquid. I'm now down to 257 pounds :) I weighed 315 pounds back in September/October time. I'm excited and nervous. I do suffer panic attacks so I hope those will get better also with weight loss.

I think that is so great! You have been waiting some time and making wonderful progress which is a good indication that you will be successful in taking off the rest and keeping it all off. Preparation is so worth it!! I am now in the prep phase also...all tests completed...just waiting for date.

Thanks :) I've been trying my hardest lol I hope you find out your date soon :) my husband is going to be shocked with my weight loss because he's an over the road truck driver and I only see him 2-3 times a month so he's definitely going to notice the weight loss after surgery :)

I cut out all soda and started portioning my food and more exercise. I went from 315 to 290 just from cutting out all soda lol I've notice my stomach doesn't hold much anymore but it definitely wont hold as much after surgery lol just keep ur mind to losin weight and you can do it :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
