What A Difference A Day Makes...

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share-- I was feeling pretty down yesterday; I have the tendency to be one of those obsessive scale watchers. I've been following my nutrition plan very closely and working out (walking, some jogging, swimming laps) and yet the scale seems stuck again. Seems I am losing in spurts! One week I'll lose 6 lbs the next maybe 1. I know every loss is a loss but I get nervous/scared I'm never going to get to my goal as I had the Lapband (and it failed and never even came close to my goal) its weird now that I'm closer to my goal I'm more nervous about failing... So i really was gettin down on myself yesterday having a "im so fat pity party". I went to bed promising myself today is a new day with new possibilities and I would go a bit easier on myself-- after all Rome wasn't built in a day right?

So here's the good part-- I woke up this morning in a clothing crisis (all my pants/shirts are getting sooo big, so I feel I look sloppy) so I decide to try on a size 12 pair of pants from the Gap that my best friend gave me and low and behold they fit perfectly!!! It made me feel so much better.

I think I tend to forget its not just about that number on the scale it's about how the clothes fit, it's about the inches lost, its about feeling better physically as well as mentally! I just thought it was a good reality check for me and a great reminder I'm still making progress!

So for any of you other scale watchers out there getting frustrated when the scale doesn't move quite as fast as you would like-- just hang on and find another great positive of your WLS journey.

Thanks for letting me share this with you guys :)

Stay focused on following the protocol. Stay active. And stay away from the scales. There are better ways, MUCH better ways, to gauge your day to day success than the scales. For example, I use my little iPhone app to log everthing I eat and drink - every meal, every snack, every drink, every day. With a push of a button I can see what I've eaten at any moment in time. Calories, Protein, fat, carbs, all of it. I can see the exercise I've done and the average nutrition values for a day, a week, a month, or any period of time I specify. Any time. Any where.

I know that if I follow the protocol, it is simply impossible that, in the long run, I will not lose weight. Period.

I Celebrate my success every day. Not based on what the scales tell me. Based instead on my knowing that I have made and am following the lifestyle changes necessary to reclaim my life. That's what's important. That's all that is important.

Sometimes you will lose weight quickly. Exciting, but not important. Sometimes you will lose more slowly. Nerve wracking, but not important. Sometimes you won't lose at all. Bummer, but not important. It's all part of the process. It happens to everybody. And it's not important.

Persistence, along with absolute belief, can never be defeated. Now that's - important.

Hi Joanna. I use "Tap and Track" because it had the best reviews when I was looking for an app. Lots of folks here on the forum use My Fitness Pal or Spark People and I've never heard a bad review for either one. I'm sure there are probably a ton of other good ones out there as well. Have a good day!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
