Seperating Eating And Drinking?

Recommended Posts

Ok I have been trying to separate the two before I have my surgery to get used to it mentally but NOTHING is working. Does Anyone have tips or suggestion as to how to do this for after? I don't not want dumping sydrome.

Honestly, I never practiced before surgery. Most of the stuff you are eating afterwards is liquid. After surgery, it wasn't hard. I haven't had any issues. I adhere to the separation and am doing well.

I never practiced and do it now just fine, it's annoying sometimes because i'll be thirsty and can't drink - but to avoid that I always make sure to drink quite a bit prior to eating so I can wait the 30mins after eating to drink. Trust me darling you won't have a problem doing it the first time you get sick, it's damn impossible prior to surgery but will become quite natural in time. I had the same issue practicing chewing things to a pulp and couldn't manage, now I even produce more saliva when I eat because of how my eating habits have changed (like pavlov's dog haha)

It's still annoying but you get so full from food that you can't stand to drink and eat at the same time. You will be amazed at how all of the things that seem so difficult before surgery are actually not even an issue after surgery. The worst part for me was waiting for something to drink the day of surgery after I woke up. My mouth was so dry. It was terrible to wait until the next morning. But when the time came I was so scared that I would throw up that I didn't want to take that drink!! Lol.

Ugh my throat was a desert! My mom was brilliant and grabbed a tiny sponge swab from a nurse and wet it and moistened my mouth, life saver. Did it feel like someone shoved barbed wire down your throat too? That breathing tube was rough on me

Oh nooo! Now I'm really scared! Lol I've been in the hospital for a tonsillectomy and been through a lot of throat pain and do know what it's like not to want to drink. My whole concern is HEAD HUNGER like when the pain goes away and I'm feel a lot better and back to myself will I have problems with constant thrirst? What was your first week like at home when you got back to reality. It's only me and my granny I know she won't be abel to do much so I can't really ask her..what are the things I have to for myself? Did your schedule change or anything

I wasn't thirsty all day. The first week i was already shopping in costco. I was on liquid diet carry ice chips. Gotta love ice chips. Made sure I always had ice cold Water. No pain meds. I had issues when if came to eating normal/regular food almost 30 days of non vomiting couldn't keep food down. Thanks god I'm good now can't eat much & I been days with out eating due to not being hungry but my dietician wants me to eat every 3 hours so I'm trying.

When u say liquid diet you mean like Soups and stuff? I've brought a ton of soups and both a broth like and some cambells chicken noodle and clam chowder and cream of broccoli etc do you think that would be okay for a liquid diet? Or something not as heavy

You can not mix solids and liquids. Only broth

Hi!! Def not the clam chowder... I'd avoid some of the creamier soups. If you have it, have the campbells 99% fat free cream of chicken, cream of tomato....

When you are on the liquid diet, it'sonly Clear Liquids.... Water, broth, popsicles (sugar free),

Brocolli is a gass-y veggie, so I'd stay away from that for now as well...

I had clam chowder (new England) 1 week out and it was fantastic! I have several cans in my pantry when all else fails

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
