Any bedside nurses out there?

Recommended Posts

I am a Canadian nurse and work in recovery room. How long did you take off work after your surgery? I am the main breadwinner, and I don't have much sick time. Anyone applied for EI to cover this?

Thanks,

Laura

Interesting... no, I didn't, but it'd be something good to find out. It does take quite a while to get your money from EI though, you'd probably be back at work before you got it! (I just know this cause I had a boyfriend who had to take a few weeks off from work and applied for 'sickness benefits". As long as you know that, and have something to live on while you're home recovering.

Good luck :scared:

I am an ICU nurse. I hope to be banded the end of March. I am planning to take off 3 weeks, but as I work weekend-option if I plan it right taking off 6 12-hr shifts can buy me a total of 26 days off. I took 2 weeks off when I had my gallbladder out laproscopically and I felt really tired jumping back into 12 hour shifts. So, I am thinking 3 weeks would be better. Plus I might be moving on to solids by the end of the third week - so that could make things a little easier. Now if I can just get the date!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
