Okay so I am about 2 1/2 weeks post op and I am having trouble getting in my Protein. My dr wants me getting at least 75g of protein. I have tried every kind of Protein Shake imaginable! I have even tried the Isopure zero carb drinks (the ones that come almost in a clear liquid). All of it tastes horrible to me. Before my RNY I didn't mind the shakes and now any kind of drink with protein in it tastes horrible and makes me feel sick. I have even tried the unflavored Protein Powder and mixed it in with several different things and I can't stand it. I am pretty much eating solids and anything healthy that I want. Any ideas on how to get my protein with out the shakes?

Two and a half weeks is a little soon but you might want to check with your doctor about trying Protein Bars. Pure Protein chocolate Deluxe bars come in a bunch of sizes from 20g of protein up to a whopping 78g of protein and I think they are absolutely fabulous! If you haven't tried them already, for my money Pure Protein Shakes (35g of protein) and Myoplex (42g or protein) are the best tasting shakes on the market. Naturally, taste is very subjective but you might give them a try.

I like the Pure Protein Bars too although I can't eat a whole one. Muscle Milk is the Protein Shake I like & they are 20g of Protein. They are the premixed, 8 OZ ones. The chocolate & vanilla ones are really good & I have never liked anything like that or milk either. I also eat calico Beans that have hamburger & various kinds of beans.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
