Hello all!!! I was banded in 2007 and because of complication of esophageal dilation I had to have the band removed. The band was removed in April of this year and initially my revision was for gastric sleeve, but a repeat UGI showed that my esophagus remains dilated and the doctor and I decided bypass would be a better revision in my case. I am scheduled for surgery on Tuesday and am feeling very nervous. Not sure if it's because I really had my heart set on the sleeve or if I'm already mourning the things I won't be able to eat after bypass. Is there anyone else out there who feels very nervous or apprehensive as your surgery date gets closer?

Hey well I'm having bypass and I'm shocked about all the things I can't eat again! But I know people that have had bypass and look great and learned to work with what they can eat. And after a while you can eat some things as long as your body can handle it. Good luck too you I hope it all works out.

I also have esophagus issues that was discovered during the endoscopy. I am no longer a candidate for the sleeve and will be having the gastric bypass in less than 2 weeks. Good luck with your surgery.

When I had my bypass in 2010 I was not nervous at all. I was so ready. when I had my revision on the 22nd of June I was fine until they put me in the OR waiting area. That was when I started getting scared. I just prayed and prayed plus had a stern talk with myself that everything would come out fine.

You will be fine,

Thanks for all the encouraging words. I'm going to have another stern talk with myself and pray that God gives me peace through all this.

A better question would probably be is there anyone who wasn't nervous or apprehensive as their surgery date got closer! LOL. Perfectly normal. I'd be more worried if I wasn't nervous or apprehensive. I remember how scared I was like it was five minutes ago. But...I also remember laughing at myself after the surgery when I realized how absolutely none of those terrible things I imagined pre-op ever came to pass! You're going to be fine and you're gonna love the new you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
