Protein/food/enough Calories

Good afternoon Ms. Jenneliza! I walk at least four times a week (more if possible). I started on my treadmill but that got pretty boring so I moved on to walking in a park near my home. I'm currently walking about 2.8 miles and about 50 minutes each time. I love being outside and my black lab thinks it's pretty cool too! There is absolutely not the slightest doubt in my mind that it has not only helped me achieve my weight loss goal but it also has helped me feel better than I have in a long time. I found after several months that it's actually quite "addictive". If I don't walk for more than a couple of days I not only "feel" it physically but mentally as well. I get irritable and just generally "out of sorts". I have no explanation for it but no point in looking the proverbial gift horse in the mouth! Personally, I think the key is to start slow, gradually work your way up, and above all else don't push so hard that you're not really enjoying it. If you push yourself so hard that you dread every exercise session, it won't be sustainable which eliminates it as an addition to the all important lifestyle changes. Five years of moderate exercise is much more valuable than five weeks of trying to be a hero. LOL!!

I've been going to gym for awhile so Ive had to work up to this. I do 30 minutes of weights on machines and free weights and the eliptical for 30 minutes to 1 hour. It will help to start with a trainer or someone who can set up your weight routine--I would make sure you know how much weight and how many sets and reps to do so you can get the most benefit in the leat amount of time.

Thanks! There is a park a minute away the problem is it has killer hills so I prob won't do it for the first few weeks. Our town has an amazing 30 mile long rail trail that is flat and I've been looking to checking it out (in small pieces of course!). That will be something I can do with my kids hopefully before work!

Wow! 30 mile trail - sounds amazing!! Does it have multiple access points so you could walk different sections? What a great, great resource!!

Yup it does. There are a few close points but not within walking distance. I looked it up. It's actually 21 miles but then turns into another 20 mile trail once it hits the mason Dixon line! We are very lucky to have it in our county!

Walmart has the body fortress super Protein Shots. They taste kinda gross to me, but it's a little under 3 oz. and has 26 grams of Protein. You can get a 6-pk online for $9.97.

Hi I've been lurking and reading posts for awhile and could not figure out how to post. I had RNY on May 29 weighed in at 253 now at 225 and holding for over a week. I am able to get in enough Protein and Water and mst food agrees with me. I've thrown up about 3 times because of eating too much too fast but basically I've been pretty symptom free. I exercised before surgery and now have upped to 1 1/2 hours daily. I eat around 700-800 calories each day. I am wondering if this is too much compared to what others are experiencing? I'm deciding to stay off the scale for a week but I see other people's dramtic losses and get worried. What do you all think?

Are you losing inches ? Have you dropped any sizes ? If so, your doing amazing ! Slow and steady wins the race . Also you are not as heavy as others who began their journey .

Read the ingredient list and if it contains "collagen" (or any derivative of that like collagenic), it's pretty much worthless. The high protein low volume is extremely attractive to us RNY types but...the digestibility of protein types is ranked by the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) which has been adopted by the FDA, the World Health Organization, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The PDCAAS uses a scoring system of 0 to a maximum of 1 according to the digestibility of different types of protein by the body. whey protein has a score of 1.0, milk protein 0.94, and soy protein 0.97. collagen or Gelatin protein has a score of 0.08. Collagen is also an "incomplete" protein meaning that it is missing one or more of the nine essential amino acids (essential because they cannot be manufactured by the body). Any incomplete protein could result in your developing protein deficiency and is not recommended for weight loss surgery patients. So collagen has an extremely low digestibility score, and it's an incomplete protein. Not good.

I can't find my tape measure so I 'm trusting that I am because clothes are getting bigger. It is just a bit discouraging to read posts where people lose 30 lbs in 2 weeks and I'm stuck going up and down despite eating right and exercising faithfully. A lot of this I believe is unrealistic expectations and that old evil voice of doom and failure when any weight loss attempt stalls. When that happens I would often just give up but that is not an option this time and for that I am grateful. I have 50 years of failures to overcome and I believe that I will and I appreciate the encouragement.

Any time ! I have learned so far not to compare your weightloss to anyone else's. Age, weight, height, and bmi all play a factor !

You are doing amazing just by your clothes becoming bigger ... Lol you could be where I am and still pre-op and not being able to fit into ANY of my clothes. ! Keep the faith and keep pushing because 6 months from now, you'll be half way there !

Idk if it gets easier but from the postings from these amazing people , it gives me need to say it does .

My surgery is on July 19 and I can't wait to be on the losers bench !

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
