Last Appointment Before Meeting With The Surgeon!

Recommended Posts

Today is my last dietician appointment and the next step it to meet with the surgeon and schedule the surgery date...which will be 4 weeks out so I can do the Meal Replacement plan for 4 weeks. Im so excited! I can't believe how fast its happening now! Hopefully there isn't any set backs.

Thanks! The appointment went okay, but I did have to make one more dietician appointment, they didn't feel like I was doing well enough with getting in 5 to 6 meals a day consistently. But I also found out that I cannot meet with the surgeon to schedule my surgery date until after my 4th clean nicotine test since I use to be a smoker. So now the surgery probably wont be until late september were thinking. Im starting to get kind of scared now that its getting closer and closer to the end of the process before surgery. Good luck with yours as well! Thanks for the support :)

I'm just curious how many nicotine tests you have had? I stopped smoking a few weeks ago. I wear the patch, but I also use the e-cig at times. I had my consult with the surgeon last Tuesday and asked the MA about the smoking and testing. She said he doesn't check for nicotine, just goes by Ins recommendations. I felt a sigh of relief. Not becasue I'm smoking, but if I decide to take a hit off of my husbands cig I won't get popped. And no I haven't started back. Good luck.....

I smoke and was never told once to stop. I know it's not good for me but my dr was very supportive (military doc). Never had to do a nicotine test.

The doctor I am seeing is really strict with that kind of stuff I guess. It can cause bleeding ulcers in ur stomach and I believe they may have said it makes recovery time faster after surgery. It wasn't hard for me to quit because I've been quit for a while now....before I even started the process I was quit for like 4 or 5 months already. I hate these stupid nicotine tests though. They are holding me up. If I didn't have to do them I could have had surgery prolly this month. But now I gotta wait until like september. It sucks. But oh well. I just need to learn to be more patient I guess.

I had to quit smoking too (was a 1-2 pack a day smoker for 3 years and smoked casually for 4 years prior to that) and boy was it hard but I LOVE being a non smoker now. I was spending $200/month on them and now since I quit I reward myself with being able to get my nails done regularly (costs me about $80/month, still way cheaper). Good for you for quiting! Next to the bypass it's the best decision you'll ever make for your health

They can tell when you get your pulmonary clearance. I was only successful at quiting due to the assistance of the patch and the e-cig;as well, I would have never been successful going cold turkey. Keep trying to cut it out completely, you'll be amazed and how wonderful it is to not have cigarettes revolve your life. You're doing great so far!

No one ever knew I was a smoker guess I was lucky passed the pulmonary function test chest xray and saw the pulmonologist. I smoke a half a pack a day for 15 years. No pneumonia no problems so far I do intend on quitting just having a hard time.

Understandable' date=' it's insanely hard to quit, probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I will always highly suggest quitting tools such as the e-cig, patch, gum, or chantix. Whatever makes it happen. Good luck, I'm sure you'll be successful :']

What about a lil weed? Does that effect anything?

The only problem I can see arising from that is increased appetite. Which will put you at risk of overeating and choosing the wrong foods

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
