Telling People About The Surgery

Recommended Posts

I feel shy about telling people I'm getting a RNY. I'm scared of judgment I guess. What are your guys' experiences with coworkers and acquaintances, etc?

At first I didn't want to tell anyone, but now when ppl see me they get shock & ask what happen I lost so much weight. I tell them. The entire world doesn't know but ppl I do talk to a lot I do tell. In 2 years I'll look even more different boob lift & Tummy Tuck & arm lift. Come on exercise won't make does miracles for me. Maybe Lipo on my thighs.

janec...I"m with you as well. I've told a few folks but, mainly the ones that have to cover for me while I"m out of work. So many people pass judgement that right now I don't want to hear it so I tell who's close to me. Most folks worry because it is major surgery but, they've all, so far, been very supportive and truly know I wouldn't make this decision lightly.

I will say though I've heard folks at work judge some of the woman who have had it. To me....I've lived their life in the struggle to lose weight so I "get" why they've done it. Some have done well...others have not. Those who have followed the correct way to eat, have been the ones who have done well. So...that just tells me DO what my bariatric center says to do!

You don't have to tell everyone .... I told my very close friends in work and they all were very supportive. Of course I told my close family members and BFF's but if someone that does not know I have had surgery and ask/say " you lost weight.. you look good" I say THANKS :) if they ask how are you doing it I say "diet and exercise". Its no ones business what you have done and its nothing to be ashamed of either, i feel it it just not everyone's business.

Thanks so much. I'm going to use the " Diet and Excercise" short answer. It's TRUE! And yeah, I hope I'm strong enough to be one of the successful ones when the time comes :)

I'm really scared of failing.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
