Well, the doing a good deed thing is already part of my secret world. I spent years going to OA, and there's a "Just for Today" list that I "try" to live by as best as I can, and the "do a good deed" thing is supposed to be "do a good deed without anyone knowing you did it." .

I love that 'Just For Today' . I kept the bookmark with me for years. I'm a grateful Al-Anon - 12 yrs. Tried OA awhile too.

I up your challenge and raise you a "good deed day".

Any takers?

We should report back what we did and how it made us feel.

Can I play, too? Please!

Does someone know how to move this week's challenge to it's own thread? Then others will be given a chance to take part (if they want to). Also, are we supposed to log-in daily and give a brief update of our day--meals, Water intake, helping others? What days is this running through? Monday through Monday? How often are we allowed to weigh? Any other info. you might feel is helpful, please advise. This sounds like just what I need to get my "butt in gear". Best of luck to all participants!

I just wanted to send out a great big thank you to all of you in this forum. I've been struggling with weight for about 15 years, and have see-sawed between lap-banding and RNY for a couple of years now.

RNY though scary and daunting, is covered by my insurer, banding is self pay.

Of all the research I've done on the subject, nothing has helped me know that banding is for me like you all and this site. Your frank details, funny observations, caring support for one another, and great ideas have definitely given me exactly what I needed to know that banding is what I want and need.

So thanks for the inspiration & thanks for the real insight.

This site has become one of my daily check-ins.

Pam, have you decided which dr. you want to do your band? Do you work for a lapband dr.? Best of luck to you and we look forward to hearing your story here!

I'm still looking in my area, and semi-considering Mexico.

No, I don't work for a doctor. I'm a hospital RN, in a medical/telemetry unit. I'm looking into Dr Rohrscheib, but still keeping an eye out. Rohrscheib only includes the band placement, initial fill and a nutrition consult for 14,500. Probably better priced than multiple trips to mexico, but I'm checking around just in case.

Yes, please check and double check for drs. and just as important, your aftercare. Have you checked inamed's website? They have a list of drs. local and out of the U.S. Good luck!

Yes, I did check Inamed, that's where I got Rohrscheib's name. His office is actually a over an hour away, but he also does some work at a clinic that's about half an hour away. He's the closest so I thought I'd check him out. If he does the procedure I'd have him do the aftercare, but I'm not sure if he would do aftercare for me if I have it done somewhere else. It's something I'll have to ask.

Thanks again!

That seems to be a major problem, getting a dr. who didn't do your band, to accept you as an aftercare patient. Some patients' Mexican drs. give them lists of U.S. drs. But they find out, after the surgery, that many of the U.S. drs. listed do NOT accept Mexican banded patients. Also, because of the liability issue, a lot of U.S. drs. do not accept patients banded by other U.S. drs. You can never be too careful or research too much. Now's the time to find out what to expect, whether state banded or banded out of the country. Just take your time checking it all out. Good luck!

My Mexico doctor referred me to a local doctor for follow up. But doctors here aren't allowed to take on patients banded in Mexico because their Med Malpractice insurance won't allow it. I'm sure the doctors would love to help us; unfortunately they can lose their license.

I found a dr in Ventura that takes on most Mexico patients and not just patients from Dr. Lopez. He told me that he hasn't refused one yet.

I didn't have any trouble either, I actually had a choice of 2 or three doctors. But I do recommend establishing aftercare in advance if you go Mexican. Best of luck to you on your journey to health.

Neicy, there's something fishy going on since nobody in Las Vegas will touch me. One of the three doctors will give fills to Mexican patients, but they said their med-mal insurance won't allow them any other care.

As far as setting up aftercare in advance, I thought I had it covered since my Mexican surgeon gave me a personal referal to Dr. Teng, but when I contacted Teng, he basically told me, "no way."

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
