My consult is tomorrow, I'm so excited. Thank you for all the tips. I will ask all the questions ever! ;D

I don't know what's going to happen, they gave me all the patent info papers at the siminar, I filled that out last week, so I don't know what's going to happen. I think they will take my bmi and tell me what I need to do to start my journey. I'm worried that they will put me on a 6 month diet, I don't want to have to wait six months. :( I just want to get it over with so I can start my new life.

Yup, basically what pp's said. You fill out forms, talk about previous weight loss attempts, cover what your insurance requires, what the surgeon requires, etc. It took 2 months to get my inital consult, and although my insurance customer service wouldnt give me any details as to what was required for approval, I had a huge hunch that it would require a 6m PCP monitored diet, so I started it while I waited for initial consult, and whewf! boy was I happy to hear that I got 2 months down with only 4,technically now 3,, to go! YAY!

If you do have to stick it out for a 6m diet, take it as time to change your responses to typical triggers. If,hypothetically, talking to your mom makes you want to eat the refrigerator, next time you talk to mom, stop, breathe, and then come here and vent vent vent. Doing this will become second nature and then bam! you have changed that bad behaviour!!!

I love this site, because that's what I've been doing, I'f I'm hungry, I come here and look at everyone else's success, or progress, or talk to people who are having the same issues and I feel so much better.

I went 2 weeks ago and found out that my ins requires 3 months b4 I can submit surgery approval. I'm so excited. I took 2 weeks of Soup searching after the appt to decide it this was what I really want to do. I decided that I'm going to do it and tomorrow I start getting referrals for all the tests and specialist. The questions i asked the doctor was 1. How long he has been doing surgeries. 2. Does he do it openly or laparoscopically? 3. What was his mortality rate? 4. What was the most common complication? 5. How much support did he provide after the surgery?

I met with the nurse, a PA and the surgeon. They gave me alot of information and asked alot of questions. They took my height and weight and determined my starting weight. Then I went to a meeting room with two other people that were just starting out. We watched a power point presentation on weight loss surgery. The last thing was meeting with the dietician and getting our pre op diet. I have to be on the medically supervised diet for 6 months because it is required by my insurance. I have an appointment with the dietician one month from the consult. At first I was upset at having to wait 6 months but I am okay with it now. It gives me time to change some of my habits and get mentally and physically ready for the surgery. This first month I have really concentrated on eliminating sugar and fried foods from my diet. I need to get going on exercise, I haven't been very consistent with getting that done. The exercise is required to help prevent blood clots when you have the surgery. The diet will help shrink your liver which makes the surgery go easier.

It was wonderful. If I wasn't married I would marry the surgeon Lolz. He explain in details each surgery. How long it takes also kept mentioning I will give you a new stomach the test is up to you to stick to a diet & lost weight & don't gain again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
