Who's drinking milk? My RN and surgeon believe that after RNY that people become lactose intolerant, but my nutritionist disagrees. I've been adding 8oz of 1% milk to my Protein Shakes and have been ok but when I made a Protein shake with only milk I got nauseous (but I did drink too fast as well). My nutritionist said I could have skim or 1% but I've been bad when I get a latte and get 2% because we don't have 1% at starbucks (where i work) and skim is gross with espresso ;/

Milk is not my friend anymore. I found Mootopia' date=' it's lactose free, tastes like milk and 12 grams Protein per 8oz![/quote']

Is it anything like lactaid? Because lactaid does not taste good or like milk :/

Not sure about Lactaid, never tried it. I used to drink a gallon a milk in 2-3 days before surgery, I missed milk but this Mootopia tastes so good. The chocolate milk is high in sugar though

Yeah I'd go through a gallon in 2 days too haha, I'll check it out though. How much more does it cost than milk? Milk is about 3.00 where I am

I drink milk with no problems. I was told before surgery that it is possible to become lactose intolerant after surgery. But even if I did it could just be temporary.

Yeah my nutritionist's opinion is people only become lactose intolerant if they stop drinking it all together, so the sooner you introduce it back into your diet the less likely that is. The weird thing is now if I have a sip of milk by itself it tastes weird to me and I used to drink 1/2 a gallon a day. Tastes fine mixed with my Protein though

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
