Just started the process

Hi Everyone,

I am in the

process

of getting insurance approval. My insurance is BCBS Georgia HMO so I know it will be a fight. I hate insurance companies. My doctor is in the process of getting my medical necessity letter ready.(The first one got lost) The

referral

and the medical letter of clearance for surgery is at the

surgeon

office. I have an appointment Monday with the

dietitian

for a

nutritional

evaluation and a

appointment

for my

psychological

examine

on January 31st. I am trying to get all my ducks in a row so if and when the insurance

company

says yes I'm ready. I know if the insurance

company

says no I will be on a

flight

to Mexico for a self pay. I want to get rid of this weight so bad I'm willing to do anything I have to do.

Is there anyone else from Georgia that is in the process or that has already been banded? I'm trying to have my surgery at

Emroy

hospital in

Atlanta.I'm

going to

Emroy

Bariatrics

. I really enjoyed the web site keep up the good work

I had BCBS of Nebraska. I was denied twice. The first one said it was not medically necessary, with the second one they wanted two years of medical managed weight loss. I had to switch to Mutual of Omaha in November and was approved in December even tho the insurance didn't go into effect until January.

Hi!

Im going through the process too, and waiting for insurance approval. Im Anthem BCBS of Maine, and it looks GOOD so far. Ive heard mixed things in terms of what insurance will expect, what the surgeon will expect, and im also going through all the recommended tests to be ready. Ive met my surgeon already at consultation meeting, and im to go back to see his internist and do the first surgeon date on Feb 5. If my ducks are all lined up he said its likely they will schedule my date then.

so far everything has gone very smooth. I still have the sleep study to do, but everything else is done. Most of it was pleasant.

I called my insurance a few times. I requested a case manager to help organize everything and make a contact person to give straight answers too, it helps them, helps me too. Im HOPEFUL. very hopeful.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
