1 Week Post Op..need Help:(

Recommended Posts

hey all sorry it took me a while to get on.... I have been good. I have started to eat Beans with sourcream, i hate the pureed eggs:( they smell and look so nasty. the tuna has been ok. I called my dr and asked if i can start some mashed food. he ok'd the mashedfoods. very little and only what i can tolerate. i have mashed carrots, squash, most of the time i am eating pureed beans or chicken. hotdogs also are ok but i grill them first and then eat one. I chew so much till they are gone then i swallow the rest. its been ok and have been able to keep them down. this weekend i was around family who pretty much made soft food so i can at least enjoy a few bites. they are all so suprised with how much i can eat and how fast i get full. trust me even tho i eat some foods i sometimes get sick to my stomach or even end up in the BR. i know every dr is different but I have been controlling all i eat. usually only 2 x a day and very little. I am concerned tho that i am not getting enough liquids in. Im just not thirsty!!!!!!!! I also hope i am still losing! my family who lives 2 hrs from here where all so excited to see me. they said my tummy doesnt bulge and i do look thinner in my face. My jeans actually were a little loose!!! cant wait to shed more #'s!!!!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
