Surgery 6/4 ' date=' first one I. Up and walking that night , swallow test in am, liquids for lunch, home at 6pm. Overnight only[/quote']

Ugh they literally had to pull me out of bed because my stomach hurt SO bad that if I tried to lean up i was crying from excruciating pain. I could only walk the distance around my bed the first night

How long did it take to go back to work? How long did it take to be able to drive again? I have a desk job, so not much moving, but I was hoping it would take a week to two weeks at most to return to "normal" daily living.

I was in 2 nights had a swallow test day after surgery. I had to get down 4 medicine cups an hr of Water every hr in order to go home. Couldn't but they didn't know that I'm doing good though. They said I'll return to work in a month and I do extremely heavy lifting! But we will see bc I think it should be longer

Oh wow. I'm hoping I could go back to work/school after a week or two, otherwise, any longer would not be good lol.

I was given a range between 2 to 6 Weeks. I took the full six Weeks so I could assist and regain my strength. I have one more week off and I am glad I took the extra time.

I have a desk job also. Including surgery, I was out for a week and a half. I started driving a week after surgery, but I have a small suv that is easy to get in and out of.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
