anyone heard of this? (port related)

Recommended Posts

i've seen a plastic surgeon about moving my port--i already have the low profile port but it really sticks out. he suggested he replace it with a port used for breast implants--that he's done it with several other band patients and although its harder to find for fills (because its soo tiny) it works great.

i contacte don mills and he's never heard of anyone doing this, which surprised me. also called my surgeon and a few other bariatric surgeons around the country and none of them have heard of it.

anyone here had it done, or heard of doing it? thinking surely this particular ps cant be the only surgeon performing this procedure...

thanks!

I have never heard of it! Maybe they can just move your low profile port deeper in the stomach muscle. Where is yours placed? I have a low profile port. It doesn't poke out at all. I had a Tummy Tuck with Lipo on my entire abdominal area, so I have very little fat there. It is tucked under my rib in the muscle.

Well, not quite all the way under the rib, a couple inches below but well into the stomach muscle. It is completely flush to my abdominals when i feel around for it.

Hi there, I would never allow anyone other than my medical surgeon to move my port once I am banded. Have to be frank here. Susannah

thanks susannah--im not worried about that, plastic surgeons routinely move and reposition the port during tummy tucks and other procedures. i'm more concerned with the non-lap band port issue.....still waiting to hear more about that part from ps!

I have honestly never heard of this being done. And if Mr Mills hasn't either I wouldn't do it.

My port was placed deep under the muscle, and even after losing weight, then a Tummy Tuck, I still can't see it. And it is just a regular sized port. Nothing fancy.

Maybe moving the port to a better, deeper location would be a better idea?

Hi Jessica, I am feeling a little scared of plastic surgery, as the leading story in my local paper was the death last monday of a 26 year old woman after liposuction at an asthetic beauty centre. She had fat removed from her thighs and buttocks on the friday and was dead on the monday. She was beautiful and young. It is such a horrible tragedy.:scared: Susannah

Do you have an online link to this story Susannah? I have heard of stories like this before, but never seen anything in the paper.

I just went to my surgeons seminar last week ( I had already decided on him but went to the seminar with a friend) . Something I asked him was if we already know we want a Tummy Tuck prior to surgery does that make a difference as to where its placed. He said that the low profile ports just became available "Standard" ( I think that was the word he used) about 2 weeks ago , and that he would put in a low profile and put it in a good spot if i already knew i was going to have a tummy tuck.

Port for breast implants? I'm no doctor but I've never heard of such a thing. MY wife has breast implants, I've seem them in the Drs. office several times. They are silicone bags....no ports or tubes anywhere.

Sam, the story was in todays edition of the Herald Sun. www.heraldsun.com.au

Susannah

Thanks for that.

How sad for her family. That story shows me why people need to be in hospital after plastic/cosmetic/reconstructive surgery. I am glad I stayed in for a few days after my Tummy Tuck.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
