For You Post Ops....

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm 19 weeks today, and for the past three weeks I have only lost one pound a week... some weeks the darn scale won't even move. Not sure why its slowing down sooo much. I still have A lot to go! I'm starting to think that I'm not gonna reach my weight goal :(

Has anyone else gone thru this? I'm soon to be 5 mons... I was hoping to be a lot thinner by this point.

I totally feel yea but my friend who is 2 years out told me about 5 months it slows down and by 6-7 months it speeds back up! I hope she's right!! I hate loosing this slow while everyone else is loosing a lot!

Very, very common and absolutely nothing to worry about. It's all part of the process. It seems to be different for everyone and occurs at different points in time, but just about everyone has stalls, lulls, plateaus - whatever you want to call it. Stay focused on the protocol, stay active and stay away from the scales for a couple of weeks. You'll be back on track in no time!!

I'm told if you hit a plateau, change up the exercise routine, add Protein, and make sure you are not washing out your pouch by drinking and eating at the same time.

You have done phenomenal so far, so you know this is just temporary! :)

I've been at a stall for about 2 weeks now and I'm only 3 months out. I just had my 3 month check up yesterday & talked to the dr and was just told it happens..that's it. Not real enthused with their answer :/

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
