New Here & 4 Yrs Rny Post Op

Recommended Posts

I had my Roux en Y on March 10, 2008. My starting weight was 260# and have maintained 148-150# since Nov 2008. I have done many exhilarating activities since the weight loss. Since. August 2010 I have taken up running. On March 6, 2011 I completed a full Marathon (26.2 miles), and since then i have completed a half Marathon, a 10k and 2 Half Marathons. Now I have taken on a new challenge for Sept 2013...Tahoe Tough Mudders :)

That is awesome! One of my goals on my "to do list" after wls, is to zipline. I like outdoor adventures.

I wanna do that next but no one wants to go with me. Oh and parasail :) Lol! I was lucky an old friend was dating enough to go skydiving with me.

I pretty much felt normal within the first month. But getting into exercise took a little while because I was still getting winded. I give myself a cut off...if I creep to 150, I go back to post op basics. liquids for 3 days and Proteins only for a week. That brings me back to 148. Then regular meals. I won't lie, we are all human and yes I do cheat. I gauge myself sweets intake with bite/snack size snickers. If I can eat 2 snack size snickers with out feeliking icky, I know I need to detox from sweets. I cut all refined sugar for a week and my tolerance goes back down. I have put away ALL regular sized dishes and only bring them out when company is over. Otherwise my kids and I use salad plates as our dinner plates. It works wonders in keeping the Portion Control monster in line. I forget some days to chew chew chew and trust me my tummy reminds me of it. Hahaha!

A 5k is a great start...Trust me! I was challenged to a full marathon as my first, and I usually never back down from a challenge. Hehehe. When you decide to train for a 5k or higher, let me know. I have an avid marathoner buddy that would be more than happy to put something together for you. I love her plans cause they are simple and make sense to me.

Wow congrats to your success. What things do you have trouble eating? Did you run into any Vitamin issues? Do you still have dumping syndrome?

Congratulations Veronica and welcome to the forum. I absolutely love your cutoff and detox ideas! Thanks so much for sharing with us. It's always so cool to hear about experiences from someone that is years instead of days, weeks or months post-op.

Thank you! If I have broccoli, cucumbers, or onions...I bloat so bad. I have to be careful witj pork, my tummy doesnt do too well with it. I became lactose intolerant at 9 months post op. K still have dumping syndrome, I think that's because I work hard to not let myself get used to my demons for too long. I do ok with Vitamins, although I bought Calcium Carbonate bh accident instead of calcium citrate....oh boy I learned really quick what it's like in the world of kidney stones. I didn't make that mistake a second time.

Thankyou very much for replying to me. It gives me hope when I hear from someone that been at this for a few years. Gives me hope. I'm going to be 4 weeks, and I can't keep food down. I'm trying but it seems as if I'm getting a joy out of vomiting. I don't feel good until my tummy is completely empty. Oh well... Going to call my doctor but the last time I told him he said it's all normal. Also his medical assistance had the RHY one day before me,and she is also having trouble keeping things down.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
