How Many Guys Are On This App

Good day gentlemen! Don't know how I missed it but just discovered The Man Room today. So here are the vitals:

  • 38 weeks post-op on Thursday
  • 5' 9", weight is down 115 pounds and stabilized at 170 (surgeon's orders to start increasing calorie intake - first time in my life a doctor told me to eat more)
  • Hypertension - off all meds and bp is actually running just a smidgen low but nothing to worry about
  • Type 2 diabetes - gone
  • Back and knee pain - gone
  • Walking just under 3 miles, minimum of four times a week
  • 34" waist, large in a polo shirt, 16 1/2" neck - loving every delicious second of it

Most amazing journey of my life. The girls outnumber us here by about 10,000 to 1. Doing everything I can to get the word out to men and women alike - there is a way. It's not easy. But it is easier - and that makes all the difference in the world.

that is so awesome great work

4 weeks post op today.

This is my third (and final) WLS. I had lap-band, then Realize Band; both of which I had complications. The Dr. wanted me to get the plication, but insurance would not cover it. So, I got RNY instead. I have lost 20 pounds already, but I was not too over weight to begin with. I am now at 195 and plan on losing 15-20 pounds of fat while putting on some muscle.

Hi guys! 61years old. 5'9" BMI of 43, starting weight of 300. Found out my insurance does not cover WLS. Will be trying to change insurance at the beginning of next year to get coverage. I started my six month nutritionist supervised diet to have that out of the way by year end. Have sleep apnea, high bp, reflux, bad knees and prediabetic. Have lost 40 lbs in the first three months, but have a hundred to go and will need WLS to make that happen. I was wondering if there were any other guys in these forums. Glad to see there are a few of us here. Will keep you posted on my Quest to get insurance coverage and get my surgery scheduled.

Hi smith and welcome to the family! There are a lot of insurance companies that cover wls. Insurance companies are driven by economic statistics and the bottom line is that it's cheaper for them to pay for wls than it is to pay for the medical expenses associated with obesity and the co-morbidities that go along with it, sooner or later. Please keep us updated on your search!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
