hajones5891 133 Posted August 29, 2012 I have the implanon in my arm and LOVE it.....I have had it a year and still no period! Wahooo!
kiwiladydee 402 Posted August 29, 2012 I heard the arm implant was absorbed through stomach like the pill so it is not as effective. I'm trying Nuva ring first before the IUD. So far, Nuvaring is ok. Can't feel it and no Superbad side effects. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
Lissette2022 53 Posted August 29, 2012 I tried the IUD previously before my second child and was unsuccessful... My doc couldn't get it in, said the area it's supposed to go in was too small, prob due to not have regular births but c-sections both times...I really want it though, might try it again. Never been good about pills and the depo shot made me gain weight, so yea, no thanks!
Rabear 15 Posted August 29, 2012 That's odd cause I have no kids and I have a iud
sweet 98 Posted August 29, 2012 I have had the IUD for 3 yrs now... And its been great because it took my periods away! The only thing is that it bothers me during sex which sucks :/
Lissette2022 53 Posted August 30, 2012 Rabear- I also thought it was odd, maybe it was just the doc... I have a new OBGYN now, hopefully it'll work this time.
Tracym1107 47 Posted August 30, 2012 I use the Nuva Ring and I love it. No periods in months except a little spotting right after my surgery.
cjoyce 187 Posted August 30, 2012 Are you done having kids? If so you could have your tubes tied and not have to worry about side effects of other bc.
Quilting Girl 8 Posted August 30, 2012 I tried the Depo shot years ago....it screwed with my emotions...I couldn't stand to be around myself!! I've had the Mirena for the last ten years (2 implants 5 years apart). It's been great not having a period, but for me it was very painful having it put in...which is why I'm not having a third one. I told my husband he could get snipped or we could have a baby....he's 56 and I'm 47....he decided to get the first option. I don't think it's painful for everyone....it was just difficult getting mine in which took more time and caused more pain.
punk.rock.mama 101 Posted August 30, 2012 I have tried and hated the pill, depo, female condoms and even a diaphragm...I have a copper (hormone free-as hormones wreak havoc on my mental stability) iud and it has been the perfect choice for me. I have a daughter and want another child but we just weren't ready to try again so soon after we lost our last pregnancy, then I got approved for surgery (after TWO years) so it worked out perfectly for me! I have also heard good things about the nova or nuvo ring which is a hormone laden flexible ring that sits in the uterus but I think you have to get it changed every 30days by your doctor...seems a little demanding, but I am not a fan of uterine exploration, let alone monthly excursions!!?? SoccerMomma73 1,867 Posted August 30, 2012 The Nuva ring, goes around your cervix, non uterine exploration and the patient removes it and puts in a new one. It's pretty good stuff! 1 punk.rock.mama reacted to this

Tracym1107 47 Posted August 30, 2012 I put in and remove the Nuva Ring. It's very simple!
kiwiladydee 402 Posted August 30, 2012 I have a hard time wearing a tanpon, but the Nuva ring fits like a charm. Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
Ciaobella 76 Posted September 1, 2012 I have a Mirena IUD. I love it! I had it put in at 8 weeks after my second son was born in February of last year, and I've had no issues at all. I, too, was crampy for about a day afterwards, but now, cannot even tell I have one. I certainly do not have a period every month and when I do, it's for maybe a day, a very light day. Every doctor is different, but mine still suggests a second form of birth control after surgery for everyone due to increased fertility. I am going in a week after my surgery so I can get a prescription for the pill. I don't want to take any chances of getting pregnant during the first 18 months after surgery. Also, if you're having RNY, then you have to take Vitamins for life, so adding a tiny pill as a precaution is no big deal.
