And So It Begins. . .

A few days ago, my father's company's insurance changed. Upon looking through the files of what is covered and what isn't it turns out that weight loss surgery is covered. I'm a 20 year old college student and I'm grossly overweight. We've discussed the surgical option a few times, and it had never been an actual option, because it was so expensive. But now, it's an option. I've been doing nothing but researching the options for the past few days. I went to the seminar, and I think I'm going to do it, I scheduled my consultation with the surgeon , it's on Tuesday, I'm really excited. It's the first step on the road to my new life.

Congratulations on making such a mature decision. I wish I would have done it when I was 20. I'm 34 now at least I have the rest of my 30's to be healthy!

I haven't seen many other 20 year olds getting the surgery. How was yours? How are you doing?

That's great that you're doing a lot of research. Be sure to ask plenty of questions so that you understand everything. There is never a stupid question. Good luck.

Other than being the only person to get a horrendous incision infection from my surgeon I guess I'm doing all right. Very wary since I'm so newly out

So excited for you! I am 24 and having the surgery June 19th! I have been trying to do it for a few years but my insurance companies would never cover it. I'm blessed to have finally finished college and have started my career so I can pay for it now. My highest weight was 340, I lost down to 255 over the last 3 years by dieting. I am using surgical specialist of Mississippi, Dr. Baulder.

Congratulations! This surgery is by far the best decision I've ever made. I look back at this post, from almost a year ago, and I'm shocked to see how much my life has changed.

Since this post, I've gotten out of a horrible relationship, became closer to my parents, Weeded out an enormous amount of toxic people from my life. Gone through thousands of hoops, gone back to school, and now it's 7 weeks, and four days since my surgery. I'm down 54 pounds, all of my GERD symptoms are gone, and I'm slowly gaining my life back.

It's a long journey, but it's definitely worth it.

Sparklette,

Tell me it gets better. One week post op. Tired, dizzy, zero energy, in full ketosis, sleep a lot, bloated, heavy stomach, no desire to eat or drink. I feel averse to food, no hunger or head hunger at all. I force fluids and shakes, but haven't met my goals because I just can't yet. Everything tastes terrible because of this ugly taste in my mouth. I burp constantly and the gas keeps building right back up. Low grade fever. I went back to doc he says all is well. This isn't living right now. Give me some hope to shoot for, please.

There is a reason the first couple weeks are called hell weeks.

It will get better. Just drink your Water amd walk. It will help get the gas moving. Gas ex was my life saver. Try different types of Protein. And brush your teeth 3x a day it helps with the dragon breath

Dont forget your Vitamins. I didnt take them for a couple of weeks. When I started them again I felt a lot better.

Just keep your head up, love, it is going to be well worth it.

I promise you it does get better. The first couple of weeks are rough. I'm glad your forcing fluids. You don't want to get dehydrated. Try some ice chips or sugar free Popsicles. I wish you the best.

Thanks. Today was better. I got a variety of cream Soups and tried different shakes. I also got all Vitamins and supplements in. Praying that each day makes me feel more normal. I'm not in pain anymore, I just feel 'off' in my head, dizzy, and weak most of all. Losing a pound a day.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
