Gastric Bypass Related Books You Found Helpful

Recommended Posts

I just finished a great book that had lots of information about Gastric Bypass surgery: all the ins and outs, information about surgery, recipes, suggestions, helpful hints, real story inserts, before prep, after work, mind work. I thought it was great and in a great format. It's called : Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies. It was recommended by my bariatric group and I can understand why. I highly recommend the read.

Anyone else have books related to the surgery, that they recommend?

I have a great one. It's called Life after Gastric Bypass by Katrina Seagrave and Jerry Wayne. The first part of the book is by the man who tells his journey through weight loss surgery. He made me laugh and cry. Excellent and so honest. The majority of the book is by the dietician and it covers everything you can expect, how to deal with any possible problems, exercises you can work on to help you be in the right mind set before your surgery. I bought it on my Kindle first but it is such a great reference guide that I ordered a hard copy off of Amazon. I highly recommend it!

atc I have the dummies book on my KindleFire. Easy to do a search of the book for topics I'm looking for. Have you tried that?

Sounds like you have a great book too. Might have to take a peek at that one.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
