Today the scale is moving and I am down 21.6 lbs since surgery, but emotionally I seem down, not sure why. Might have been the fact that my mom had us stop at McDonald's for my sons lunch and they both ate while I drank unsweetened tea, then i proceeded to drop the tea 3 times. Finally I threw it out!!!

Does anyone else have bad days like this ??

Honestly, this is the most emotional thing i have been through. I have days everything goes wrong and i cry constantly on those days. I feel like im not losing enough. I have always put my self down my whole life. You will have bad days and a very emotional ride but always hold your head high and keep going. Remember you are doing it for your health.

Yes! I have bad days too. I think we all do. I start feeling bad when I look in the mirror and wonder how did I get so stinking fat? I also feel deprived when the waitress comes around asking about dessert. Of corse, the Desserts were part of what added to me getting fat in the first place, and then there is when my husband goes out to dinner by himself, because there isn't anything I can eat at that restaurant.

We all have those moments, just remember what's at the finish line. I know food was a big part of my life but instead of food controlling me I'm controlling it now. So keep your head up and know you aren't alone.

Everyday is a roller coaster - with tons of tears. You never know what's going to set if off. They say it gets better but I cant imagine it. My favorite food is pizza and I don't know how to be happy without it.

Try going to the worldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com She has a ton of pizza recipes where she uses a mission carb control tortilla for the crust. I am a pizza junkie also. I am going to try to make a basic recipe this week:)

I have days like this too. I feel the same way as you do. Some days are better than others. Its so hard. I don't regret it at all, I just get down sometimes. Mostly about myself. I'm not losing it fast enough and stuff like that. Try to keep positive and everyday is a new day.

I do feel bad sometimes cuz I'm also a pizza lover. I also enjoy cheeseburger. I buy it for the kids & it doesn't bother me. I drink ice cold Water. Also I have diet snapple iced tea flavor. I had a lot of ice & it's like having iced tea from outside.

I have pizza I just have a smaller amount and thin crust when possible. There is hope you can have pizza eventually.

I am sorry everyone is having bad days. We should be feeling great and happy, right?! Keep in mind, your fat is where all your hormones are stored and because you are dropping the fat so rapidly, your hormones are going berserk trying to figure out where to go and what to do with themselves. It is normal to have the feeling you are going crazy because you don't feel like yourself. It will get better.

I find I am very short with my husband and just have no patience for things. Some days I feel sooooo tired I just want to stay in bed. I know his will all pass. Hang in there!!

The last couple of days have sucked.. Cried a lot- and not sure why.. The huge lifestyle change- the sadness of missing food as my comfort- plateau in weight loss- etc.. It's such a huge transition!! And no one gets it- besides all of you!! Surgery was 5/21..

Hey! Tstevens28...we had surgery on the same date!! It is so very hard!! Lately I am just sick of the whole ordeal of eating. I just don't even want to bother with it. I know that we will be glad that we did this though!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
