Where Is Everyone From?

Jen in So Cal- I'm still waiting on Anthem BC approval. They said when I called on Tuesday that there should be an answer by Monday 8/20. I am hopeful that I get approved vs denied. After reading all the different situations on here' date=' I'm not sure what to expect. I was told by the center that I have excellent coverage and it should be no problem and the lady at the insurance said it sounded like I should be approved but until it's done there is no guarantee. So I wait :(

It's nice to find someone here that had surgery with the same practice, I haven't chosen my surgeon yet.

Have you had any major problems or complaints?

Has the center been there for you like they say they will?

Anything I should know?

I appreciate any help given!

Congrats and good health![/quote']

I think you should be approved pretty quickly. It took under a week for me once they submitted for it. My BP was borderline and I had no other issues except for arthritis, which I'm not even sure they took into account. It seems like Anthem's only requirement is that you have a BMI of 40 or more.

Wish I would have had my surgery at Fountain Valley. There seemed to be a lot of miscommunication between Chapman and the practice. Seemed like I had to fill out every form in triplicate. I blame the Hosp. for that though.

I haven't had any major problems from the surgery but when I had questions they would always help me when I called.

They put you on a two week liquid diet and are very strict about 3 weeks of liquids after surgery.

One word of advice, DO NOT buy the Bariatric Advantage Protein Shake mix from them. Their markup is like $25 or $30 dollars a bag. I learned that the hard way! LOL They'll ask you if you're interested in hearing about it but it's not a hard sell. Just tell them no thanks.

My only complaint is that after surgery, you only see the Physicians Assistants for your follow up appointments. It would be nice to see the surgeon again but I guess his (or her) job is done. The PA's are great though and they really take their time and listen to you, making notes in the computer about everything you discuss.

They're great about making appointments also and I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 10 or 15 minutes in the waiting room.

Good luck and let me know when you get approval! I'm excited for you!!!

Did you have proof of attempted weight loss to turn into the insurance? I didn't have any type of proof and I didn't have a letter from my primary Dr. Not that she wouldn't send one, but wasn't asked to.

I called again today and they said it (the case file) has been assigned a nurse and that it is being worked on its just still showing as under review.

The waiting for approval is sooo hard! I just want to know so I can figure out my next move , one way or the other.

Thanks for the good wishes, they are greatly appreciated :)

They just had me list all the weight loss attempts I had made, weight lost, kind of diet etc...

My PCP had nothing to do with my surgery, as a matter of fact I think she was a little hurt that I didn't involve her lol but it wasn't necessary for approval in my case.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
