Hi. My name is Ava I'm 21 and have a 5 month old Son. I will be having the bypass in 4 months. I lost my mom the day before I had my son unexpectedly. It's had a major toll on me I eat for everything. If I'm sad, happy, upset, alone. I'm starting my diet today. I want to lose 25lbs by next month. I will be working out for 1 1/2 hours each day and drinking protien shakes 3x daily for 2 weeks then 2 and dinner for the other 2. I'm really motivated because I also have my 9, 8, 6 and 2 year old sisters and brother. My 9 year old sister has downs and she's my motivation. I want to be able to get on the floor and help her when she has therapy. I also want to be able to run with my son when he gets older. I'm 5"6 and currently 311 I was 292 last month so I went the wrong way with my progress. Well, I look toward to talking to others.... And getting questions asked thanks ;-)

Ava, proud of you for making u important. Protein Shakes are great, I drank hot tea when I was hungry in between. Lots of wonderful flavors. Something about warm liquids are soothing for me.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
