Hello everyone,

I was banded on wed 1/24/07 and today is fri 1/26. I was wondering if it was normal to feel hungry? Also I've gained 3lbs since my surgery. I guess right now i'm feeling a little bit discourged. Seeing as how so far it's had the complete oppiste effect on me. Any advice would be appericated.

Repeat after me "The first 6 weeks are about healing. Not about losing weight". (at least according to my surgeon).

You probably had IV liquids put in you during surgery, and that is part of the weight gain.

REPEAT AFTER Lisa: THE FIRST 6 WEEKS ARE FOR HEALING!

a. you have swelling

b. you just had surgery where you were hooked up to an IV

c. your band is EMPTY

Don't worry... just stick to concentrating on healing and then by the time I have my surgery you can post the SAME ADVICE TO ME! LOL

Hi Ryan,

I Know Exactly How You Feel. I Was Feeling The Same Way...i Was Recently Banded On 1/17 And Just On 1/24 I Was Starting To Feel Very Very Hungry!! And Was Feeling Discouraged Also....but I Called My Doctor And He Said The Same Thing , Healing For 6 Weeks And Wait Till The Fills Come!

Good Luck!

Trust me I understand! Don't worry though, eventually the bloating from the IV will go down. I am 5 weeks post op and I can't stop eating. I eat almost as much as I was before the surgery. But I am very optimistic about whats coming next. I've only lost about 18 lbs after 5 weeks and I am getting my first fill next week. This is where the real magic should begin. The first month is all about healing and trust me I still feel like i'm healing. Let your body get use to this strange tool inside your body first then you can start working on the weight loss.:biggrin1:

Thanks for all the replies. Makes me feel better. Looking forward to healing and loosing all the extra weight.

It's always good to hear other people went through what you are!

Once you get healed and properly adjusted, I'll bet you love the band. I'm thrilled with mine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
