donnalee62 2 Posted June 22, 2012 I'm about 4 months out . . . and I've tried a bunch of things. I use benefiber in my two shakes a day, as well as taking Milk of Magnesia at night (not every night, but a couple of times a week.) It's probably the worst thing about the surgery - I feel toxic half the time from not going! Check with your surgeon and see if they have suggestions also. My surgeon gave me a prescription for Ametiza (sp?), but that didn't really help me. Good luck! *D*
lynn 49 Posted June 22, 2012 I take 4 Vitafusion FiberWell gummies and if needed milk of magnesia which has been three times so far. Sent from my DROID RAZR using RNYTalk
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted June 22, 2012 Definitely the worst thing about the surgery! They told me to take milk of magnesia and it definitely worked. If you buy it, be sure to get the flavored one. The taste of the straight stuff is worse than the constipation!! Takes a day or two but it gets things "moving". They cautioned me that you don't want to take it for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor. I guess it's possible for your body to get "used" to it and can make it difficult to have a normal movement without it. I never had a problem and never needed it for more than two or three days but there were several times when I needed it. The good news is that the Constipation does eventually go away. atcgoddess1 37 Posted June 22, 2012 My health care nurse told me to take a tablespoon a day of milk of magnesia. Works fairly well!! I am scared to take or use any Fiber supplement due to bloating. Couldn't that potentially stretch my pouch or cause alot of gas pain? I have enough of that as it is! Lol!
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted June 22, 2012 I'm not too keen on supplements if I can avoid them. If you're far enough out, just about all veggies are an excellent source of fiber, low calorie, and if you stop eating at the first sign of "full" I don't think you have to worry about stretching the pouch. Many fruits are good choices as well. I don't know a lot about which foods contribute to the gas issue. Sure know a lot about passing it though - LOL. One of those things just that just seems to be part of the price of admission!
